SenatorCollins says she doesn't support legislative efforts to stop family separation because she thinks the bills on offer are "far too broad." Adds that she supports building the wall as part of a comprehensive solution.

I want her gone, the people of Maine need to make life hell for her. She has gone completely to the dark side.

(13,305 posts)...I saw the list yesterday of the 10 or so Democratic Senators who have not yet signed on to Feingold's bill.
This is not something that is negotiable. This is not something that depends on one's state or constituents. This is human rights and I don't want to hear any bullshit about how any of them vote with us 75% of the time or will vote for Majority Leader Schumer or any of the other excuses. This is a matter of being for or against tearing children away from their parents and putting them in concentration camps. If you can't go on record as being against that and in favor of a bill that will clearly do that then I haven no use for you, 75% voting and Majority Leader Schumer or not.
I agree, if ever there was a litmus test...

(68,552 posts)The Republicans did this...not Democrats. And red state Democrats need to win their elections...unless we can get a bill there is o need to risk it. Can you imagine what will happen if Republicans win more senate seats and we don't get the house which is still gerrymandered and won't be a walk in the park. I am tired of seeing Democrats blamed for what Republicans do.

(26,109 posts)and they can start by acting like humans and voting with the rest of the Democrats against this shit.

(56,828 posts)I saw a tweet this morning that went something like "and with senators X and Y now supporting Feinstein's bill, we're at 98% of Senate Democrats opposing child separation, and 0% of Senate Republicans opposing child separation."
Thanks for the information. And this doesn't fall under Manchin's 75% of the time he votes with us then I don't even have words for how unacceptable that is.

(56,828 posts)So, all the Democrats, plus Sanders and King.
Can we have at least 2 Republicans sign on?

(82,849 posts)I'll bet the voters of Maine can find someone else who will.
And if you build a wall, Susan, we'll tear it down, just as surely as that other wall erected by a dictatorial regime got taken down piece by piece. You're on the wrong side of history, and we will remember your cowardice in the face of oppression.

(804 posts)if enough of her constituents rise up in protest as they did for health care. We MUST make it riskier for these Republicans in swing-able states to support these outrageous immigration policies then it is for them to parrot the administrations words to the "base". Republicans are more concerned about power and keeping it than anything else. Let's make them own their policy positions in the midterms.

(4,267 posts)We give reps way too much credit when they get one vote right because they'll revert back to serving their party first, donors second, and constituents last almost immediately.

(16,372 posts)It's not just the wall. As far as I'm concerned, I'd gladly let him build the damn wall in exchange for stopping this filthy policy and reuniting the currently separated families. The wall is just a thing. It won't stop illegal immigration any more than the Great Wall of China protects that country. It's a medieval solution at best.
The problem is that the bill Trump favors would, among other things, stop extended family reunification as an immigration policy, preventing people who are here legally from sponsoring other family members. In fact, it doesn't even provide for the reunification of the refugee mothers with their children.

(68,552 posts)asked to join was the Democratic bill which was pretty good. The GOP bill would actually allow them to keep children indefinitely....of course no one should support that. She said we don't need any legislation...and in my opinion Republicans are never right. I would never defend this evil woman.

(22,976 posts)Anyone who's Republican and either going along with the fascist dictator, or worse, remains SILENT in the face of totalitarianism. From the party that likes to toot its own horn about how much they LOVE the Constitution and ADHERE to it, they're sure having a whale of a time shredding that piece of paper.

(17,174 posts)On Sunday, she'll mealy-mouth her general disapproval (or general approval, depending on what's being discussed).
On Monday, when the rubber meets the road, she'll be lined up like the rest of her party to give a wet, sloppy kiss to Rump's enormous ass.
Guaranteed.

They will not cross him, they can and will break the Constitution for him, sell out this country to the Russians for him, help him commit atrocities against innocent little children, and tell monstrous lies.
The GOP is a criminal org and an evil child abusing cult, period.
They need to be eradicated from the face of the earth, period.

(6,496 posts)King is the one up for reelection this year. Going to using ranked choice voting in these US senate races now, so that might have an interesting outcome if an independent runs. It means the 50% of the vote is required to win.
