Parents are sent to adult detention centers because they are being prosecuted for the misdemeanor of entering the US.
Because the adults are in detention centers, their children become reclassified as "unaccompanied minors". Unaccompanied minors are processed though the Office of Refugee Resettlement. I have no idea how to locate the child detention centers. Obviously there is a way to find out, but I don't know how.
