President Obrador is not going be amenable to this illegal behavior by the United States.

The Mexican presidential election is July 1st.

the scope and highest level of humanitarian crisis becomes more clear.

Few countries are going to be amendable to this behavior.

Just saw this in the NYT - mother and son flee Guatemala - get to US in late May. 8 yr old son seperated and sent to a detention center. Mom already Deported - back to Guatemala with no way to contact son.

TRUMP makes George W Bush look like a humanitarian. I’m serious. This shit of the US government abusing children en masse on American soil is a whole new level of depravity.

Well you own this Republicans. Especially you Princess Ivanka. You were supposed to be the compassionate one. The check on your father’s bullying tendencies. But you’re good with this apparently. Fuck ALL of the Trumps and all of their enablers.

the treatment of people of color.

The U.S. has a long history of tearing apart the families of people of color--selling slave children away from their family as soon as they were able to work; taking Native American children away and imprisoning them in boarding schools that used them essentially as slave labor, starved them, and neglected their medical needs. Many of those kids who ran away from the boarding schools died before getting far.

And even though they were allowed to stay with their families, Japanese-American kids and their American citizen families were imprisoned in internment camps (i.e., concentration camps) during WWII.

I don't trust all that much in the general decency of the U.S. public, even when it comes to the well-being of infants and young children. Too many Americans care only for fetuses, not for children who have already been born.

Late at night they have dreams about such atrocities and get all frothy. Rethugs live for shit like this. Those with at least some modicum of decency left the Rethuglican party months ago. What we're left with on that side of the aisle are full on fascists. I can't put it any plainer than that. Deplorables is far too nice a word for them and their minions. I just call them trash and scum. That's exactly what they are. When all this is over, these bastards need to go to jail for the rest of their lives. This is a crime against humanity and I'm not ruling out capital punishment as a viable sentence.

Like the Vietnam War.

Americans need to see, up close, what is being done in their name.

It won't sway the Immovables, but I bet it would create a much needed storm.

On the other hand - suddenly there is a whole lot of coverage - in part (to my reading) from last weekend's attempt to visit by Sen. Merkley (D- Oregon). I have no doubt that others have tried to cover this - but the press coverage a week ago - started getting press coverage, which has continued and grown over the past week.

At this point pictures are hard to get - Disallowed (per inside the facilities) per Trump's policy. But suddenly - after the press is covering hard - and more members of congress are going to visit and creating press events - pictures are starting to come out.

Your analogy is spot on. The more ongoing press coverage and pictures - sustained over the time that this policy continues - the better. We (Us citizens) need to be reminded daily of what is being done in our name.

The first photos since zero tolerance was announced inside the largest Border Patrol processing station in US — McAllen’s Ursula.

This is where we toured today.

They say it’s where more kids are separated from their parents than anywhere else in the US.

Very Callous.

And another step to moving more of our fellow citizens into accepting evil, callous and horrific as normal.

I am more frequently pondering how much fox/rw talk radio/ politicized churches - esp in this era of Trump are functioning as creating the mind control routines (of shutting out divergent thought) often common in cults.

Pictures are needed - plural - no plethora of pictures like those from the torture in Iraq - too numerous for all but the most already indoctrinated to recognize as being past the bounds of humaneness.

Mon Jun 18, 2018, 06:46 AM

from this. I don't see how anyone, other than a bunch of psychopaths, can do this.

This goes straight to fear of abandonment by the people who are supposed to protect a child -- the parents.

The children's needs, psychological, emotional, and physical are not being tended to properly in a facility that is friendly, warm, and welcoming. No one really knows what is happening to them, so I assume the worst. The government gives me no reason to assume anything else.

When I was a child, being in this situation would have terrified me. I just cannot wrap my mind around this. I can't believe it is happening in our country. If this were happening to me, I would go insane due to my powerlessness to help my children. If we were reunited, I too would suffer serious psychological damage from the experience.

I also wonder how many adults (not captured teens) are caring for the children who speak the children's languages and who understand and are very skilled at this process.

Those who are in this situation are merely pawns, treated like cockroaches, to the ultimate end - make people too afraid to even try to immigrate here. There! Immigration of brown people problem is solved quite tidily. Never mind that it could be handled much differently. Perhaps, dare I say it, in a friendly, warm and welcoming way.

It preys on the weak and defenseless, demonizes them, blames them for everything, and physically and psychologically abuses them; then it finally eradicates them.

Congratulations, America -- you've gone full fascist. All those good people who died last century in a all-out, worldwide effort to eradicate this scourge are with us in spirit.

Destroy fascism.
