The policy plays to the GOP strategy win 2016 painting Dems as open border and pro gang. Stirring racial hatred and fear is their brand.

No, really. It’s the point. They want these horror stories, the “punishment” of “those people”. They think it’ll be a deterrent and they think it serves these immigrants right. They have no empathy or sense of “does the punishment fit the ‘crime’” It just pleases them to see their scapegoats hurt.
