I saw a documentary after 9/11, and all I could hear in one scene was the sickening sound

of the bodies hitting the ground.

One of the commentators asked, “How bad are things when you have to jump?”

That’s what is happening with the refugees at our border. They jumped. With a kid by one hand and a baby on a hip, these mothers and fathers jumped. Because what they were fleeing was so horrific and sickening that the unknown they were running to was better. All the tired miles, through all the borders and rivers and mountain, they jumped.

Let it be into our arms instead of onto the ground. None of us reading this has probably had to jump, and we should be thankful every day that we haven’t had to. Yes, there are laws, and yes, we need a secure border, but we also need to remember our humanity and to hold each other up instead of tearing each other down.

Could've been Stephanie Ruhle.

"No one puts their children in a boat unless the water is safer than the land".

Great post by the way.

in hopes for a better life for their children.
All decent parents would do the same.

I find it incredible that the intelligent discourse in this country has been lowered so much that you even have to say this.

But evidently it has to be said. Thanks.

Sigh...

There are so many ignorant people in this country.... When I was at Cal State, situations like this are some of the issues I studied and learned about. There are two movies I'll never forget: El Norte and Maria Full of Grace.... I can't un-see them nor would I want to as they helped to raise my awareness).

It was by French documentary filmmaker brothers, Jules and Gédéon Naudet, who were there to make a film about the life of a rookie firefighter, so ended up getting first hand footage of what went on that day. I originally saw it on CBS and bought the tape, it was so affecting, and I remember the quote. And I agree with you. These aspiring Americans were desperate enough that they felt they had no better options.

like Luckovich's "Sophie's Choice".

They're the lost children now.. and somehow they need to get back to their parents.

We desperately need to get a caring human being in charge of our government to make this right as we possibly can.

Someone needs to clean up trump's tragic mess.. he can't.
