1. Why were they exempt in the first place?

5. The sales weren't tax exempt, the retailer just wasn't responsible for collecting

On most states income tax there is a question asking if you made any out of state purchases, and you are supposed to pay tax on them then.

So up until now it has been the honor system and almost no one has been paying. This ruling confirms that states have the power to shift the responsibility to the seller.

I am good with this, it lessens the disadvantage faced by brick and mortar stores.

Ginsburg joined the majority on the opinion which says a lot

2. I pay taxes on my amazon purchases here in California with no problem

Why the big deal? Regular retailers pay why not amazon?

7. Will be hard on small Ebay sellers.

I'd be for it if small mom and pop internet sellers were exempt.

8. It's the buyers who pay the taxes

amazon could just automatically take the taxes and pay them like they do her in California. It actually levels the playing field that everyone pays taxes on their purchases.

3. In this case, I think the Overlords are right. Although I have benefited yugely buying some stuff

on-line without paying sales tax. But, it really puts the local small businesses at a disadvantage.

4. Good. I support local retailers in getting level-field taxation. nt

6. I think it's adorable you have overlords.

Kinda creepy, but I guess they look cool on your t-shirts.
