(3,985 posts)William Shirer's Rise of 3rd Reich Is a very accurate and readable book as well.
The Holocaust (1978) depiction, for me, is most valuable for its spot on insight into the hearts and minds of the everyday people turned into Nazi monsters.
The older drama style, a bit shlocky, might not apeal to youth; however, given the assignment to see the psychological aspect, human nature under duress, can engage them to watch and talk.
This series demands looking into our own hearts and minds to see what behavior we might choose.

(23,937 posts)the wedding of Inga and Karl, the tenuous acceptance of Jews by Germans and vice-versa (if tainted by an underlying distrust), in the shadow of looming policy changes, uncertainty but optimism that the establishment and the generals will sanely limit the Nazis' actions
then the montage... 1936, 1937 flying by as people try to live their lives normally, as abnormal world events happen around them and Hitler consolidates power
then it's 1938 and we're back in the moment and we see that the "normal" has changed significantly for Dr. Weiss ...
impressive depiction of the Overton Window moving sharply as it has recently, all in the first 1/2 hour of the series
