I'm going to say it

FUCK EVERYONE who did not vote for Hillary Clinton.

I don't care why you didn't vote for her. I don't care if you thought she was an oligarch or didn't like her voice or her laugh or believed she wasn't liberal enough or she just didn't "inspire" you (what the hell is up with that anyway - are you 8 years old who won't eat your pancakes unless they're shaped like happy faces?). Unless you were too ill or otherwise physically incapable of voting or your vote was suppressed, fuck everyone who did not vote for the only candidate who could have prevented what is happening to this country.

Too bad she's too fucking dumb (and vain) to understand that you don't have a "revolution" by giving all the power away to the Republicans.

And those with some money will be able to afford to go to Costa Rica or Cuba to get a safe-ish abortion.

Poor women will be butchered. And/or we will find more babies in dumpsters and ladies rooms.

203. And, even if there is a massive Democratic wave in November that swings the House & Senate

We'll still be stuck with a very conservative Supreme Court for a generation, barring a shocking death - Clarence Thomas is the oldest Republican on the court and is "only" 70 years old, so could be there for another 10-15 years or more.

Meanwhile, Democrats need a new president and the Senate to replace Ginsberg and Breyer, 85 and 79 years old now.

Sarandon and the other people who believe in a "Revolution" are too fucking stupid to know that you don't gain power by GIVING IT AWAY ON PURPOSE!! (Idiots!)

But, hey! At least they have their pride. Right? At least their VANITY vote "sent a message". Right?

All I'm trying to say is, when they wanted to "send a message" by not voting (or by voting for Stein, or writing-in Sanders anyway)... the actual message they were sending was "Hey everybody! We're stupid as fuck!"

25. Same here.

I came of age under Reagan and ruling after ruling of 6-3 conservative by the Court. Then Bill Clinton came along and we had a chance to change everything forever by voting Gore in, but the hard left fucked that up. We had a second chance with Hillary, but the hard left fucked that up.

I am a straight, privileged male. A conservative court has no fucking impact on my life other than the ruling depress me. I will personally be ok, I just hurt for the people that now won't be ok. I am really tired of pleading with the far left to pay attention to the big picture when they vote. Honestly, the only thing that will hurt me is watching powerless people get hurt, the far left seeing some of their shit blown to hell? Fuck them, I am tired of carrying water for them when I vote.

44. I could have written every word of this myself.

I am fortunate enough that I can either avoid or manage to overcome the consequences the Court can impose - and even if I can’t, I have the resources to cushion the damage. So i’m Not fighting for me. I’m fighting for those who can’t withstand the harm and who can’t fight for themselves. And one of the things that really pisses me off about many of the people who were so adamant about not soiling their their sanctimonious pure political souls by voting for someone as “imperfect” as Hillary is that they, too, had little to lose and would personally be fine under a Trump presidency, but didn’t give a shit about those who wouldn’t be just fine. Instead, they threw people under the bus so they could get their revolution on.

My wife works 30-35hrs a week at $9 hour. I've been laid off for over a year but i start a teaching assistant job this fall as i work towards certification. I cant work right now because my son is disabled. Between all of his appointments and needs, itd be impossible for me have a job. He gets 750 in ssi but it barely coverz our mortgage. Between all the gas we pay to his appointments and often have to eat out because his appointments are two hours away travel time. We are not making it. We can't make ends meet and so our credit cards are high balances.

216. $20 a month doesn't cover a good supply of ramen noodles.

That is shameful in a country that has so much.

When I was in college, I used to mega prepare meals on Sunday and refrigerate to use later, then warm them in an oven when ready to eat them. That helped me in three ways, I avoided eating out because I could not afford to, I ate healthier and lastly I saved money because I could catch bulk sales, use some and store or freeze the rest. The mega preparation and cooking was chaotic, but it worked well for me.

81. This is my story too.

I'm tired of people that I work with every day, people who will be destroyed by trump, supporting him all the way. They are too stupid and too ignorant to bother to look at what this will do to the ones they say they love. Many of these are jobless poor that I spend hours trying to help find work. They way too often are proud that they didn't vote for Hillary, that they love mr. trump.

True, the asshole millionaires who didn't vote trump, but didn't support Hillary are frustrating though.

Government and healthcare jobs are big around here, all are under attack from Trump. Fortunately for some of the poor assholes around here, the state gives lip service to Trump policies but largely keep benefits coming. I hate to see people suffer, but maybe what we need is a Great Depression, where lots of people worry about where their next meal will come from. The last time that happened, we got decent politicians in office for over 38 years.

I don’t care if they don’t want to own it or don’t want to hear it, I’m going to tell them about themselves whenever and exactly how I damned well please.

I just hope those who whined about Hillary, swallowed the lies about her and decided to switch or stay home in a pout are getting a good look at what they have done.

On Roe Vs Wade Susan Collins said she considers it Esbilished Law, but she has been known to switch.

As one person suggested hopefully? “Deaths do happen,” That is truly sad we have to think this way.

As well, I'd also pretend, like you, that one concern for A displaces all other present concerns. As doing so certainly allows our inaccuracies much more credibility... to ourselves at least, if no one else.

Regardless of any additional petulant and projected "thanks..." (because at the end of the day, petulance is all many people have).

124. It is for me

I'm focusing my efforts and resources on getting out the vote of real Democrats who will vote Democratic if we just talk to them and help them get to the polls and make sure their votes are counted - and who don't need their asses kissed every day at noon before they'll even think of voting with us and who don't threaten to storm off in a huff if our lips aren't just the right shade of pink and perfectly puckered when applied to their derrieres each day.

And since there are more than enough of them to put us over the top if we just stop ignoring them while chasing around after spoiled prima donnas and racist Trump supporters, mine is an absolutely excellent strategy.

Wasting another second of time on anyone who, knowing what they know and seeing what they've seen would not crawl over broken glass to vote Republicans out of office is just plain stupid.

So, yes. Fuck them.

144. So...if the electoral college remains the same, you are going for a repeat of 2016?

No reaching out to any that were fooled into believing Putin's memes
No reaching out to Sanders supporters that were mad and stayed home or voted Green and may be regretting it now.
No reaching out to Independents that may be on the fence this time
No reaching out to those Republican voters that voted Obama last time.
No reaching out to any of the percentage of voters that are in that 20% that did approve and now disapprove of Trump.

Lets just tell them to FUCK OFF now so they really know we hate them and they shouldn't even THINK about voting Democrat and we don't need it.

You are going to try and do the same thing and expect different results. Actually last time we had Sanders, someone with cred in the Independent arena, implore his supporters to vote Democratic. This time you may not even have that. You don't want their help anyways. You are only going allow into the tent the purest of voters. Only Democrats for life. Spend all your time preaching to the choir and focusing on Democrats that will vote Democrat whether you urge them to or not. Again..brilliant use of time!

Lets whittle the tree down to a toothpick. It will be the purest, most established, obedient to the party, toothpick though. so there's that I guess.

Go ahead with your preaching to the choir strategy. You are free to do that.

But there's a difference from choosing to stay in your clique and whisper sweet nothings to each other and hope things change next time and simply ignoring everyone else, to actually shouting out to anyone not in your circle to "FUCK OFF, we don't need you anyways!". At least give some of us the chance to win them over first. Because if we don't get a clear and substantial majority to counter balance the cheating that the GOP will be up to, luck won't be enough.

156. The fact you think reaching out to marginalized voters who need help is "preaching to the choir"

but chasing around after fickle voters who have turned on us once and who can’t be trusted to pull the lever for our side once they are carried to the polls in a golden chariot on roads paved with rose petals and ermine so their delicate arses don’t get jostled on a bumpy ride is the way to go speaks volumes.

162. reaching out to marginalized voters is what I'm talking about

Those that are marginalized and those that perhaps only believe they are marginalized.

each get the same amount of votes.

actually its not that bad to use this two pronged approach.
we need folks like yourself to make sure any Democrat that was just lazy or thought Dems would win anyways, or couldn't get a ride etc. understand how important their vote is coming up.

And folks that wade into discussion groups, and maybe engage with neighbours and fellow workers, and patiently coax some of them that are on the fence or misinformed to see the light. At least to NOT vote Republican.

cheers.

165. The people you're talking about aren't "marginalized"

The people I’m talking about aren’t hanging out in online discussion groups. They’re working two and three jobs and trying not to get profiled and shot by the police and struggling to just get through the day. They’re not “lazy” and they’re not “misinformed.” They don’t need to be convinced to vote for Democrats. They’re solid.

But they need to be convinced that their vote matters and can make a difference. They need to be shown that, despite all evidence to the contrary, the system isn’t stacked against them. They need people to help them navigate the voter registration process, make sure they don’t get purged from the rolls (and if they were, how to get back on), find out what papers they need to get the right kind of voter ID so they can vote - and help them pay to get them if they cost money. They need people to help them get to the polls on Election Day or vote absentee. They need to know their vote will actually be counted. And they need believe that their usefulness to the party won’t end on Election Day but that they will be listened to as a respected constituency between Election Days.

They need to know - and be treated as if - they are just as important as the people who are holding their breath til they turn blue because they didn’t get a perfect candidate. They need to be catered to just as much as people who are still threatening to vote for candidates that are doing everything they can to destroy these people’s lives. They need us to appreciate that they have been “holding their noses” and voting for the lesser of two evils for decades but don’t whine about it lor expect to get a damned medal for as a result.

You don’t reach these people on DU or Daily Koz or Twitter or candidate rallies. You reach them by going to them in their barber shops and beauty salons and churches and corner stores and housing projects and car washes in neighborhoods that haven’t yet transitioned into the new hot spot, neighborhoods lots of people don't want to go near much less spend any time in.

Those are the people I’m reaching out to and working with. These are the people who are going to put us over the top - if we start acting like we give a shit about their votes.

239. But those feeling marginalized and actually being marginalized have the same amount of votes

And the word "marginalized" is relative like everything else.

I totally agree with you. Your second paragraph is eloquent and says it all. Go for it!

I also realize some of your angst is pure anger venting at the latest blow (SCOTUS)

I just think that it can't be so black and white (speaking almost literally). Every person that voted for Trump last time cannot possibly still be eager to vote Republican again. There must be a few out there that might be confused now, don't really like Trump. Maybe just voted blindly with their families. Or as Hillary suggested, wives just voted under pressure from their husbands. Or those that voted for Obama but would never vote for a Clinton, for instance.

Like I said, IMO we need a two pronged approach.

I think we both want the same thing in the end. A Blue Wave that has enough votes to swamp any red surge fueled by cheating and suppression by the other side.

207. That list in no way represents what the Democratic campaign did in 2016.

Please.

As if Effie venting her frustration here is going to be read by:

any that were fooled into believing Putin's memes (well, yes, those do pop up here from time to time...)
Sanders supporters that were mad and stayed home or voted Green and may be regretting it now.
Independents that may be on the fence this time
Republican voters that voted Obama last time.
the percentage of voters that are in that 20% that did approve and now disapprove of Trump.

Sharing one's frustration and anger, with those who are of a mind (you know, like here on DU) often gives one the strength to get over that next wall. And if you haven't noticed, there are even more as of yesterday.

Actually last time we had Sanders, someone with cred in the Independent arena, implore his supporters to vote Democratic.

He, however, didn't say a syllable about the Russian and Ukraine hackers that were posting anti-Hillary memes all over his FB pages, and the day after the election talked about how ashamed he was of the Democratic party. Let's not do that again and expect different results. Someone who demands allowing into into the tent the only purest of litmus test "true progressives," which means those he approves of.

Lets not whittle the tree down to a toothpick.

If we do, it will be the purest, most established, obedient to the "manifesto," toothpick though. so there's that I guess.

241. Roll your eyes all you like

We still will need an overwhelming majority of the votes to counter Republican cheating.

My point was simply egging on anyone that voted Democrat last time to do it again, and stopping there, and telling anyone that didn't vote Democratic last time to FUCK OFF is not going to work. Telling someone, even if they represent a tiny minority, that may be now realizing that they may have made a mistake with Trump last time and is looking for reasons to next time vote Democratic, that we don't need your vote so fuck off, is not a smart strategy. Because its only logical that if all the same people that voted Democratic last time do it again, and visa versa, the electoral college will give the same results.

Because neither was directed towards them.

It seems to be a call to ignore trying to win anyone over to vote Democratic this time that did not last time. That we don't need their votes. I just think this is a short sighted, and a naive approach. Taking into account that we will need every single vote we can get considering we are up against cheaters.

Voters stupid enough to be fooled by Putin memes, also fell for Nigerian Prince money and they knew better. Sanders supporters who stayed home because their fee fees were hurt knew exactly who they were getting in Trump and didn't care. Independents are rarely on the fence and if they supported Trump before, they will do so again. Republicans didn't vote for Obama, they voted for McCain and Romney then Trump. If voters approved of Trump before, they are more in alignment with him now. I have principles and one of those principles is not voting for or enabling a racist or aligning myself with those who do. That doesn't make me obedient to any Party, it makes me obedient to me and my own values. I have absolutely no intention of reaching out to anyone who goes against my values.

Introduced herself to Queen Elizabeth and curtsied, while at some highbrow function. I like Liz, but I think Sarandon's act showed just what she is, she is taken with power.

24. Normally, I relish being right.

Telling someone a playful, "told you so", is usually fun. I thought that life under 45 would be awful for the country and leave lasting marks on us for decades to come. This is just the worst. I never thought I'd see children being taken away and jailed. I never imagined policies targeting actual religions would be enacted and not challenged by both parties. I just knew that after the Orangeman stumped allover our allies and bent over for our enemies.....that people would have said........something? Anything?
This is far worse than anything I could have imagined. Not because I thought tRump was better, but because I thought better of my fellow countrymen.
DL Hughley had it right. Twitler has lowered the blue book value of the presidency. His supporters and enablers have, forever in my mind, tarnished the image of the "neighborly" American to the global citizen.

On a day like this, I'm kinda at a loss for words. But NOT at a loss for resolve.

I love this country too much to give up on it. But I've noticed I have to tell myself that - even have to start DEMANDING that mindset of and to and from myself - a lot more often these days - to keep my spine in place. This place helps me avoid becoming completely discouraged, because it reminds me that I'm not alone in my thinking.

42. Ounce of prevention

Person means nothing in comparison to party. I always have to laugh at people who say they vote for the person and not the party. Somehow that theme is popular on sports sites. The posters believe it makes them seem balanced and clever. I call them morons or worse and they can't stand it. Meanwhile hundreds of major decisions are in the balance simply based on which party you choose.

And there's a minor hint on that regard when almost every major House or Senate vote is virtually unanimous in each direction, depending on which side you check.

74. You don't want to start this.

I could counter that if Bernie had enthusiastically campaigned for Hillary, she would have won. She would have won if Bernie had not pushed the primaries as far and long as he did. Hillary would have won if the Bernie voters who were "really angry" had compromised and not gone off in a huff.

It can go on and on. If Bernie had compromised, Hillary would have won. Or put better, trump would have lost.

Hillary gets shat on regularly for compromising. Bernie is lauded because he won't compromise.

You might rethink your premise. Sometimes the truth hurts.

Hillary didn't lose because she was less POPULAR. She lost because of James Comey's letters and because of some even more important factors -- more important because they're not going away. They will be used against us in every election going forward, unless we can stop them.

The big problems are voter suppression, Russian meddling, and targeted voter propaganda through Twitter, Google, Facebook, and other forms of social media. There is no question that the Trump campaign, through Cambridge Analytica, did this -- and that the Russians did this. The only question is how much they conspired together in the propaganda campaign.

We need to figure out how to defend the democratic process from fake news and micro-targeted AI propaganda -- or lose our democracy. https://www.democraticunderground.com/10029576691

PALMER: Rigged election: Donald Trump won every surprise swing state by the same 1% margin
http://www.palmerreport.com/opinion/rigged-election-donald-trump-won-every-surprise-swing-state-by-the-same-1-margin/118/

The most commonly posited explanation of Donald Trump’s shocking election victory was that every professional pollster in the nation – despite each working independently and using differing methodologies – somehow managed to overlook the same pockets of Trump voters in these states. If such pockets did exist, they would have existed in varying sizes in each of the four states, thus resulting in different sized wins in each.

Ask any statistician and they’ll tell you that a reasonable distribution of the results would have been Trump winning one of the states by one percent, won one of them by perhaps three percent, won one of them by two percent, lost one of them by one percent, or something along those lines. But instead the voting tallies looked startlingly different from any natural distribution. In fact they looked startlingly the same.

According to the New York Times, the voting results broke down like this: Trump won Florida by just over one percent of the vote. He also won Pennsylvania by just over one percent. He won Michigan by just under one percent. And he won Wisconsin by precisely one percent. That’s not how numbers tend to work in the real world.

On its own, this kind of suspiciously consistent numerical dispersion across the four states that decided the election would be something that could be written off as a mere fluke. But when you put it within the context of the numerous other ways in which the voting tallies make no mathematical sense, it points to the numbers having been rigged or altered.

What you are not allowed to do, by a few in here at least, is any criticism of Mrs. Clinton's past positions, statements, or associates or donors. And to dare to suggest that a Clinton's position on an issue could in any way conflict with your personal morals?...you are treading on thin ice my friend.

102. A cry from the heart that I share. There are two people who were in my life that I hope...

...I never see again. One had been a long time colleague in local social justice and peace work, the other is a very narrow hyper-intellectual who only knows mathematics. Both these women are about my age, which is 70, and well old enough to know better.

The last -- the very last time -- I had lunch with my old colleague, a bright Latina with heart, she parroted the anti-Hillary screeds from the Left. "Hillary Rodham" is more dangerous than Trump because she knows where the levers of power are, and that kind of crap. What made it worse was I know which group of vets she was spending all her time working with, because during the Bush2 years I worked with them too.

The other woman I have only encountered a handful of times and she has always irritated me, but the last time was right after the Comey "revelations." She went out of her way to needle me hard about Hillary's supposed criminality. Talk of Trump's character left her unmoved. "We'll see," she said. "We'll see what the next week brings."

How could they? How could one I thought I knew be so blind? How could the other one be that arrogant? And here's the final kick in the ass: they are both financially marginal.

Last week I phoned an old friend from graduate school and spent an hour talking her down from her anxiety about the fascist, trying to give her some hope. She's poor and lives in senior housing, with a son dying in a nursing home far away in Wisconson. Trump is a disaster for such as they -- this is reality. She's like me, she voted for Hillary, absolutely no question about it.

A few days later I phoned my sister and it was even worse. She's Dem to the bone, like me. I felt like I was trying to talk someone down off a ledge for over an hour. I did my best. She's in upstate New York and I am in California. I can't just drop in. Aside from the galloping fascism, Trump's destruction of the ACA is impacting her husband, herself, and their virtually disabled adult son that she brought home to live with them -- this is real. She wants to leave the country, but can't.

Then for me, something more about the children -- maybe it was Senator Elizabeth Warren's write-up of her visit to the cages -- My eyes leaked all day. Again, insomnia.

Damn, now I seem to be dribbling tears on my iPad. Sorry if it makes the ink run. Sorry if I said too much.

176. I guess that depends on your point of view, your age, and your bank account

It is very educational to explore Canada's immigration website, as my husband did during the BushCheney admin and then after Trump got in. They prefer people who are educated, have desirable skills, speak more than one language, and are not retirement age.

In other words, someone who can contribute to society and to the tax base. If you are old, you need to bring alot of money to make up for the fact that you never contributed to their health care infrastructure during your working life. That is just reality.

My kids are adults and have no desire to move from where they are. I have no desire to leave them behind.

134. Maybe who we should

be angry at are the geniuses who ran a feckless campaign and the echo chamber that enabled it.

When an election turns on as few votes as 2016 it may well be true that Jill Stein's extra 1%, or a relatively small percent (compared to the % of disgruntled PUMAS who abandoned GOT POTUS Barack Obama in 2008) of Sanders supporters who didn't vote with us, or Russian propaganda which wouldn't have fooled anyone other than the feeble, or Wayne County voters who wanted a better reason than a sermon, or Comey that pushed Trump over the edge.

BUT it wasn't them that pushed that election from what would have been a slaughter if Obama were running right up to the edge.

If only someone, someone, on our side understood that 3 million votes in California weren't worth 60000 votes in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsyvania and acted like it.

IGNORES that Stein made a difference ONLY because the most negative, least issue-oriented campaign in history made it close and then thinks that a "Republicans bad" tweet (instead of a tweet about what WE would have done with our judicial appointments) proves anything other than the price we paid for a campaign that listened to David Brock instead of Michelle Obama.

Us: Hillary got more votes, but just couldn’t overcome the array of forces - Russian interference, voter suppression, media bias, etc. - that aligned to deny her the presidency.

Them: STOP WHINING AND MAKING EXCUSES! Hillary lost because she ran a “feckless” campaign. Stop blaming the Russians, the Republicans and the media! If she’d been a better candidate, they wouldn’t have mattered!

Us: The people who refused to vote for Hillary are responsible for this.

Them: No, they’re NOT! The RUSSIANS and the REPUBLICANS and the MEDIA played a HUGE role in all of this!

Some within the party of trump need to realize they no longer are republicans, not after promoting putting babies in cages, promoting neo nazi and white supremacy , promoting dictator terrorist around the world, promoting rigging elections from an enemy , promoting corruption and lying. I think there are some that don't hold any of those values , and now need to renounce their membership any longer to a party like this. They need to side with Democracy with the Democrats and take Senate control out of trump , putin , and mitch's control any longer for the good of this country. Or they will be forever known for turning their backs on our country in favor of this monster we now have in office destroying this country as we know it. McCain is a better man than that staying with them hurting this country any longer, and all those promoting loyalty to trump over loyalty to our country .

227. Only someone mired in entitlement would say something so ridiculous

First of all, the people who refused to vote for Hillary aren’t progressives. They are outlier disrupters. Progressives voted for Hillary because they don’t play these kinds of childish “give me what I want or I’m going to hold my breath until I turn blue” games. But evenif you want to label these crybabies “progressives,” they don’t represent all, most or even a critical mass of progressives. And these outlier “progressives” need to grow the fuck up and stop demanding they be “thrown a bone” in order to vote for the duly nominated nominee in a general election in the most important election in our generation. The world and the party doesn’t revolve around them.

Second, YOU may be ok with things “getting worse before they get better,” but plenty of people - people who true progressives actually care about, protect and fight for - don’t have the same luxury. They have no room for error. They have nothing to fall back on or cushion them from the “worse.” Their lives will be infinitely harder. Worse could possibly destroy them while faux “progressives” try to prove a point.

Therefore, as I said, fuck them.

247. No, boo-the real problem is people who refused to vote for the only candidate who could have stopped

Donald Trump allowed themselves to be convinced that the duly selected Democratic nominee is a "corporate approved establishment candidate" and therefore it would be a "sacrifice of their principles and ideals" to vote for her, even if it meant that a greedy, crooked, ignorant, inexperienced pig of a man living in the pocket of Russian oligarchs and strongmen, is destroying our democracy, is putting babies and toddlers in cages, is stripping away union and individual rights, is inciting deadly violence against the press, is encouraging racists, Nazis and KKK, is about to shove the Supreme Court further right to the point that civil rights are being eviscerated and Roe v. Wade will likely be overturned, has debased public discourse to the point that we may never dig it back out of the much (and that's just a partial list) would become president of the United States.

The problem is that people that stupid or craven or un-American (or combination thereof) not only had an influence on such an important election but continue to have enablers and defenders who will blatantly smear Democrats on a Democratic discussion board in language virtually cut and pasted from sources that no serious person would give any credence to, much less consider as anything even remotely intended or likely to advance progressive principles or goals.

233. And fuck millennials while you're at it...

And by "fuck", I mean "motivate them to vote". In most states, between 50 and 60% of people in the 19-29 age group DID NOT VOTE in 2016. That's hundreds of thousands of potential votes for Democrats that were not cast and that surely would have made a difference.

This is the problem we really have to deal with - non-voting. Conservatives typically gang bang those voting booths every election. Independents and liberals don't take voting nearly as seriously. We have to get to the bottom of this one issue with careful study and appropriate mitigation and activism.
