Because it was "suggested" to Kennedy that his connections to the Kushners, Trumps, Deutsche Bank, etc., may come out if and when the administration appeals anything that Mueller may throw at Trump. Kennedy would have to recuse himself, or risk being outed for his connections.

So.....retire now, so a new one, another Trump loyalist w/o these connections, can be put in place. One who won't have to recuse himself.

Now we know why Trump kept saying repeatedly, "If only I'd known that Sessions was going to recuse himself, I would have chosen someone else."

The message was not lost on Kennedy.

This stinks to high heaven. But I don't see how anything can be done. Except to prevent the nominee from being confirmed, but I don't see how that can happen.
