If events do not help, invent them to create a clear and present danger and suspend the constitution and civil rights.
To increase their grip on power and stifle opposition. They will do that without hesitation. History of the world is full of many examples. They see themselves, as the Nazi did, builders of a great civilization and saviors of the motherland and all they achieve at the end are destruction, pain, and suffering for countless millions.
