I can't imagine a worse idea. onenote Jun 2018 #1
Term limits might be a fix, so no prezinut gets more that one or two picks. deminks Jun 2018 #2
We have term limits. They're called elections. EffieBlack Jun 2018 #5

Forgetting the current Prez, voters do elect the person who has the power to nominate Justices, Hoyt Jun 2018 #4
That's a very bad idea. Trump got elected, remember? MineralMan Jun 2018 #6
The electorial college wouldn't be involved... Maxheader Jun 2018 #8

I agree... Maxheader Jun 2018 #16
You'd need a Constitutional Convention to do that. irisblue Jun 2018 #15

as well as the Senators who approve. Obviously, it's not working very well right now unless one is a white winger. But, I wouldn't want Justices subject to the whims of voters and contributors.

Letting the people decide who is to judge them rather
than the current lot of lobbyist owned politicos? I like
the idea more and more...

Qualifications are extremely limited.

Put Judge Adam Jones on the opposite side of a ticket with Steve Bannon and there is a good chance we will have Bannon as a SC justice.

But of course they will pledge to ignore political prejudices
and judge per the law..
Let them be nominated from the ranks of existing judges at
all the different levels of govt. Let them campaign on their
records and in debate. Of course there is the chance of getting
some extremists, but they aren't in the capacity to push new
laws and create chaos in our society, ...like those in congress.
They rule on issues..rule is the key word here. Still like the idea.

Way too many state legislatures are run by Republicans & there is a long term goal of the radical hard right to reopen one.

Too freaking dangerous.

that points to democrats for political posts can be used.
People declare they are going to run for a position...they
campaign for causes we liberals believe in...People would
decide whether the individual would make a good judge,
just like they favor any person for an elected position.

because that would force the congress to work together to ensure reasonable picks are considered. Both proposal would require a constitutional amendment which is nearly impossible in today's world.
