(4,959 posts)I mean, I appreciate the humor of it, but really, France isn't exactly a bastion of welcoming refugees and immigrants right now. There is a huge nationalist backlash there as well.

(4,959 posts)nor am I equating all European countries with each other. But France in particular has recently made tougher immigration laws that are quite controversial, and as I'm sure you know there are currently efforts to establish regulations for the EU and it isn't looking good. Many people in the U.S. tend to romanticize the more social democracies of Europe and I think it is important to keep that tendency in check.
I'm not trying to ruin the spirit of the rallies today, I promise. The irony of that first picture just jumped out at me because I've been reading about this a lot lately.

(5,101 posts)You are absolutely right.
Trump helped f*cking European RWers to free their hateful ideology and speeches.
It was already hard to fight them, he made the battle thought !
I never thought I'd want to go back in time to kick her mother in the womb and abort her!
I swear I'm totally against violence though, but in this case, I think it's a public health issue!

(1,325 posts)I thought the Statue of Liberty was saying she quit and was going back to France, not the lady wearing the costume?

(4,959 posts)my point is just that, for many immigrants and refugees, France is not exactly the bastion of liberte at the moment either, so there's some irony with this symbol and that statement at an immigration rights event.

(5,418 posts)She was dressed up as the Statue of Liberty.
Telling us she (The statue, and what she represents) was going back to where she came from.
It was a metaphor about the meaning of immigration to America....no longer applicable in Trumpistan. If I was Lady Liberty I would leave too....

(36 posts)I attended in Tucson this morning ... was a very good turnout ... really great sign ... funny swipe at the Orange Moron ... don't have a pic but: sign has profile of Herr Trumph ... and text within says "Does this ass make my country look small?" Hooray!

(5,609 posts)lives in a tolerant/blue state, or perhaps uses it for special occasions such as a protest rally then removes it?
Forgive my curiousity, it's just that such things are never seen where I live (deep red area of a red state). To drive in public with this sign would invite certain verbal and possible physical attack. I've been on the receiving end of both for far less. Sad to see what has become of my state.
Good on these folks for turning out. Makes this senior citizen's day!
