American soldiers of WWI drawn by a French schoolboy




On 4/7/1917 & 1918, “Sammies” who were involved in the WWI celebrated Independence Day on the French soil. A Parisian parade seen through a French schoolboy's eyes — One of several drawings saved


"Sammies" is the name given to American soldiers in reference to Uncle Sam by the French.

They were elementary school pupils, aged between 7 and 9.

I will open another thread with more pictures and information. I will give a link to the website. It is about WWI and gladly, there is an English version.

It is really interesting.

That's an incredible level of talent for such young children. I wonder if the boy(?) whose work you posted above became the professional artist he was clearly meant to be.
