ACLU membership grew from 400,000 to 1.84 million after Trump was elected: report

Membership for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) grew exponentially in the months after President Trump was elected.

According to a report published by the The New York Times on Wednesday, the national organization’s membership expanded from 400,000 to 1.84 million in the first 15 months after Trump was elected.

The organization also reportedly saw a jump in online donations during the same period.

In the three years leading up to Trump’s election, the ACLU reportedly averaged between $3 and $5 million in online donations per year.

But since Trump won the 2016 presidential election, the organization has reportedly raised just under $120 million in online donations.

“Until Trump, most of our support came from people who have been with us since we challenged Nixon,” Anthony Romero, the ACLU's executive director, told The Times.

“Now we’re kind of cool. Cool’s not a word generally associated with us,” Romero said.

4. i give a small amount to a large number of charities

and democratic candidates, but right after trump started stealing children i sent them $100. I usually only give that much to Justice for Murdered Children.

I agree that they're "cool", but I never thought they weren't!

As a dot org they will not be supporting any particular candidate. This means your entire donation will go to the cause of electing Dems

13. I wish that the ACLU had not supported the corporations and big money interests

on Citizens United. I understand their legal argument, but in protecting the speech rights of the rich, they left the rest of us unable to be heard.

I signed up for monthly donations. Did the same for Planned Parenthood and NAACP Legal Defense fund.. Always donated, but not on a monthly basis.
It's hard to even think about that day now. DU down and the America had lost big time.
