General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDemocrats are all in on Robert Mueller.
Through months and months of turmoil and confusion, they wait patiently for Robert Mueller to come forth with the evidence that will indict Donald Trump once and for all. They reside in a political purgatory, not knowing their final destination. They have faith, and hope for the best. All the while, the short-fingered, vulgarian dictator uses his power to consolidate his base and to demoralize his enemies. He attacks everyone that does not support his authoritarian practices, including Robert Mueller.
Democrats are "all in". They have no more cards to play. All their stakes are upon the table. They are relying on Robert Mueller to save them. If, for some reason he does not, they do not have a back-up plan. It's all or nothing. They can dust off their hands and the seat of their pants and go home. And wait...

(23,094 posts)That's what will happen if drumpf (and his master Putin) are left unchecked in their power over us. Look at what happened in Germany under Hitler and you have the blueprint he's following.

(6,070 posts)Look how "moderate SCOTUS swing vote Anthony Kennedy " worked out. If imagining Mueller dying in a mysterious plane crash gets you in the right frame of mind, then do that.

I'm not sure that is the case. More like wishful thinking, in my opinion.

(92,167 posts)aren't "ADULT" enough, or mature enough to realize what the stakes are, WHOSE FAULT IS THAT?
These cop out excuses that people make for not voting is bullshit, and THEY mostly will pay the consequences of their actions
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink

(111,079 posts)Absolutely right!
If the voters are still not convinced by now to vote, I have no idea what else we can do to persuade them?
We have an uneducated populace when it comes to civic responsibilities. It is a failure of our education system perhaps?

I don't have a lot of faith in the American people at this time, unfortunately.

(92,167 posts)They understand very well who controls both the House and the Senate, and its highly unlikely if and when Mueller reveals hard evidence pf criminal activity among trump and his administration, it is Congress that determines if something is impeachable, and without a Democratic majority, that is unlikely

(819 posts)To Rosenstein... Rosenstein will decide if if goes to congress. Congress will not vote and convict him. That's how this ends.
The DOJ has a long standing practice of NOT indicting sitting presidents... and Mueller will abide by that.

(111,079 posts)..the same as Richard Nixon.
And then hope the Congress will do something about it in this partisan atmosphere.

(819 posts)impeachment is pointless unless we have the votes to convict in the senate. If the senate fails to convict, the backlash will be strong and he will shore up support. Same thing happened to Clinton
kentuck
(111,079 posts)It happened with Clinton. Therefore, it will happen with Trump. That is not necessarily true.

(58,785 posts)Kentuck, imo that's shockingly mistaken. We have no subversives here, so there's no need to wonder about motive. You're just plain astonishingly wrong.
Our trump cards include but are not limited to:
The Constitution of the United States, the structure of our federal and state governments, and the body of law that has evolved over the past 225 years and more: Mueller operates within that but is only one cog in our wheels of justice, which are almost entirely on our side.
The VOTE: The blue wave reaction to growing fascism is real, and Republicans are terrified of what's going to happen on November 6, when as happens every 2 years, We The People have the chance to revolt -- almost literally from our armchairs.
The Fourth Estate: All honest media are serving democracy by revealing truth, and investigative journalism has never been better.
The march of history: For the entire history of our nation our side has won far more than lost because WE are the guardians of government of, by and for the people.

(111,079 posts)We all truly want to believe that.
But there is no guarantee it will happen. It would be great if the American people were to rise up and restore our faith in democracy.
If there are more cards to play than the Mueller card, we have not seen them. It does not give anyone great confidence that the American people will rise to the occasion when they were so comatose to allow such a derelict to win the White House.
I hope the Democratic Party is strong enough to come back from wherever it has gone? The new voices give us hope but are there enough?
I understand why people are cynical. If the Democrats can win back the House or Senate in November, America will breathe a huge sigh of relief. If not, they will question whether or not we can survive two more years of this assault upon our lives?
This is so much worse than Watergate. An entire political Party has been taken over by saboteurs whose intent is to destroy our institutions and to put in place a sick, malevolent dictator. There is nothing that is sacred to these people.
I don't think the Republicans are that fearful of losing the House in November. I think they love pretending to be the underdog. I continue to hope for the best but I have almost lost all faith in the American people to stand up for our country.
I am tired of trying to persuade people of facts and reality. The die has been cast. We will know for sure with the elections in November. We will know what the people of this country are made of. We will know if they are worth saving.
It's depressing as hell to think about the other possibilities. I would agree with you that we need to remain positive until we are proven otherwise. It is a terribly sad chapter of history,in my opinion.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)that you imagine Democrats are lost and alone? Over half of Americans are still the people who voted to elect Obama twice and Hillary Clinton in 2018.
The blue wave is real, the question is how big it will be on November 6. There is a world of difference between worrying about that and denying that it exists after months of proof. The pattern began with early special elections and has continued every Tuesday in this primary season.
If we lose, it'll be both because the midterm elections are also stolen by evil agents AND because we live in a time where
"The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity."
No Democrat should look to others to provide his or her conviction. That's for the passionate worst at trumpster rallies. Conviction and commitment to government of, by and for the people has to come from within themselves. Failure results from personal weakness, not from Nancy Pelosi failing to add leading us in booster chants on her to-do list.
