President Donald Trump has no plan for the possibility that Democrats will retake congressional majorities in Novembers midterm elections.
Aides to former President George W. Bush correctly believed they would lose their Republican majority in the U.S. House and formed a secret Oh Sh*t Group to prepare, but the Trump White House isnt doing that, reported Axios.
Bushs staff met regularly in chief of staff Josh Boltens office to game out their strategy for dealing with Democrats, but sources said Trump and some White House officials are certain the GOP will hold onto their majorities in the House and Senate.
Some administration officials arent quite as confident as their colleagues, according to Axios, and some congressional Republicans have tried to convince the president to prepare but aides say they spend most days in reaction mode.

Maybe he knows that the fix is already in with Russia. Republican Senators are in Russia now and Trump is meeting Putin in the near future. Are they finalizing plans for the 2018 elections?

(31,514 posts)when our own security and intelligence agencies have concluded, unequivocally, that it did happen. He either knew about (and possibly colluded with) the Russian activities or his ego is so fragile that he can't accept the fact that he needed any help from anybody to win. But to deny that it happened is just beyond belief.

(23,091 posts)He knows Russia will hack the vote, do whatever it takes to keep him in charge so he can continue Putin's quest to destroy liberal democracies starting with ours and continuing on with the world. Unless Mueller takes him down, it will happen. I don't know that a blue wave will be sufficient when Russia will just take away the Dem votes or add extra repug votes to ensure their guy wins. Putin doesn't' play, he's evil incarnate and drumpf if just an ignorant greedy tool.

But actions seem to be louder than words.

(4,066 posts)1. He's confident the fix is in.
2. They are as inept and ignorant on this as they are on everything else in governing so they haven't thought to plan. Typical of them.
There is a sort of third possibility. Denial. He does seem to believe he's great.

(30,613 posts)Turd says he's going to discuss election meddling with Putin. I assume that's to plan the next phase of meddling.

(9,527 posts)It's a completely unsupported conspiracy theory. Trump is an idiot. He doesn't plan past his next tweet, and given by his horrible spelling and grammar, he doesn't think too hard about those either.

(16,646 posts)Quite honestly, they could be right. Taking over either chamber, much less both chambers is not a given and will be a tough slog. And even if we do, it isn't clear we'll have much of a majority with which to work. Flip side, is even if the GOP hangs on to either chamber, their ability to accomplish much will be severely limited as well. As such, it isn't really clear what planning they would do. They haven't had much of a congressional strategy as it is. Mostly they've allowed Congress to do their own, with them reacting to those plans. God knows the White House can't stay "on message" for more than an hour or so. Planning for next January has got to be well beyond their capability.

and the overarching desire for money and power are one in the same.

(764 posts)They know its just a matter of time such evidence mounts against Trump so that his base jumps ship. Trump and the GOP are going to try and claim some health and/or old age issue causing him to retire early and Pence to step up and investigations stop. Oh and the Trump family is going to try and make a deal he will step down in return they are able to keep their gains. Welcome to capitalism and no this is not sarcasm just mho.
