If the use of ICE to kidnap children and separate them from their parents and put them in locked cages and lose track of where they are, where they may never see their parents again, is not an issue in the Democrats' favor, then what is??
If we are going to wring our hands about "abolishing" ICE, what other issues will the Republicans use against the Democrats?

Whose "use of ICE"?
Yes, it is a huge issue. We should stop deflecting from the real problem all while giving Republicans ammo. Calling for ICE to be abolished is to completely ignore the problem.

(24,402 posts)Calling for simply "abolishing" ICE is not helpful IMHO.

(50,941 posts)the gutting of women's access to healthcare, the rise if hate and racism that republicans encourage, the asinine tax scam taking money from poor and middle class and giving it to billionaires, the astonishing deficit that is causing that our children and grandchildren will have to pay because billionaires wanted more money, the intentional destruction if Obama Care that's leaving millions without access to healthcare, the raiding if our public lands and giving them to billionaires, the republicans welcoming of russia destroying our democracy.
There's more. Tons more. We can't become numbed by the drama into forgetting that these things are not normal.

(24,402 posts)I think that the main argument/expectation should be, if you don't like what Trump/GOP's doing and you want somebody to "check" him and/or provide some "parental guidance" and start holding him and his officials accountable for their (mis-)management of the federal government, vote Democratic. Also, if you want to stop him from cramming a whole bunch of unqualified judicial and cabinet nominees down our throats, vote Democratic. Democrats won't be in a position of doing a lot legislatively so long as Trump is POTUS and the prospect of impeachment is dubious at best (and even if Trump is gone, there's still Pence), but they can at least block GOP legislation and tamp down on some of the worst excesses of his dumpster fire of a (mis-)Administration.

(623 posts)The proposed Republican budget for next fiscal year drastically cuts social security, Medicare and Medicaid to pay for the Trump Republican tax cuts for the very wealthy. This should be a central part of the democratic campaign. If Democrats don't also run on this they are letting all of us down. People who vote know how important these programs are to every demographic except for some of the very rich who are Trump supporters anyway.

(9,258 posts)This affects everyone. "Only one party thinks quality affordable health care should be a human right...it's not the Republicans." On TV, this should be the voiceover with headlines in the background showing all the ways the R's have voted against or sabotaged the ACA.
