Trump is trying to install Brian Benczkowski, who represented Russias Alfa Bank, to head the DOJ Criminal Division.
Please strongly consider calling your Senators to express your disapproval!
Here's the quote from Senator Dick Durbin-
Remember Brian Benczkowski? He represented Russias Alfa Bank and was a top staffer to then-Senator Sessions. Senate Republicans plan to vote next week to confirm him to head the DOJ Criminal Division. Heading the DOJ Criminal Division is a critically important job. This person will supervise over 600 federal prosecutors handling thousands of cases and investigations, and will oversee sensitive matters such as the criminal investigation of Michael Cohen.
Benczkowski has no prosecutorial experience. He showed poor judgment by choosing to represent Alfa Bank while he was seeking a DOJ job despite reports that Alfa was under criminal investigation. And he wont commit to recuse himself from Russia-related matters if confirmed. Why does President Trump want Brian Benczkowski for this important job? Why not find an attorney who has actual prosecutorial experience and who is free and clear from Russian connections? And we still dont know the full story behind Alfa Bank and what they did in 2016.
In May I joined my Senate Judiciary Democratic colleagues in calling for Benczkowskis nomination to be withdrawn. See our letter here:

So glad to have two Senators who are Democrats.

Get on Votebuilder and the mobile app. Minivan, then reach out to your folks and compare/contrast D vs. R.
It's not that tough, except when you encounter brainwashed trumpanzees, which is when you move along.
Be the change you want to see!

(30,733 posts)I have been a precinct committeeperson for years. I have been building relationships with Democrats in my community for close to thirty years. Recently, I canvassed with a candidate. She was impressed with how effective my husband and I are in our community.

(37,648 posts)to cause these Senators any damage. They are Trumpers all the way. Down to the last drop of blood they want to wring out of every poor person, to give to their big donors.
Seems like they have found a way to stop Mueller? What happened to the current head of DOJ?

Wonder how many million$ the $alary offered was?
It's EXACTLY the same tactic used by the Drug Companies that was exposed by the top DEA guy who was going after the Opioid distributors for delivering like 1,000,000 pills to pharmacies in WV towns of 540 people, and failing to report it to the DEA, seen in a story mid-June on 60 Minutes.
Once DEA started investigating the matter, there was like 30 career DEA people suddenly got high-paying gigs with the Drug companies, effectively gutting the investigation, and then Republicans (with little Dem resistance, sad to say ... Holder was adamantly against, yet Obama signed anyway ) passed a bill to 'protect pain sufferers from not being able to get their meds' that effectively gutted the ability of the DEA to hold these distributors accountable in the future. Basically took their power away, so nobody is 'watching' what they do anymore.
I suppose the 'plan' is just to go after the Doctors and more so ... users. Fine the doctors millions, and put users int the private GOP donor prisons, and do NOTHING to the mega-donors in Big Pharma for creating this crisis.
This is just another example of big-money private enterprise corrupting the ability of the Government to protect the Citizens, the Nation as a whole, courtesy of the GOP.
We SHOULD be hearing about this little scam of getting the DOJ Head of Criminal Division sucked over into Private Enterprise, only to be replaced by an asshole with Russian ties on our 'liberal media', but ... good luck with that.

(37,648 posts)The whole thing was pretty disgusting. How do those people sleep at night?
I missed in the news that he'd left the DOJ. That's very bad news. He'll be replaced with a Trump loyalist and in a position to be a David Nunes, passing all info on to Trump's legal team, and interfering in the investigation. Maybe conducting his own "investigation" into Clinton's emails and such.
Sickening.

Enemies foreign and domestic are trying to embed corruption to destroy our systems and take over our democracy. Instilling corruption has become a major political weapon, and the Republican Party has become effectively totally corrupted. That's not news to our Democratic Party leadership, though.

A call takes 3-minutes, inaction will last a generation.
MAKE THE CALL!

(58,785 posts)I haven't called either senator in the last several months without finding their message lines filled up. Atavistic is a nicer word for both of the senators here in Georgia, where the enlightenment has always flickered weakly at its most energized.
But good for you!

(2,690 posts)It's gifting them -- with the country. Trump is not a colluder. And he can't really be called a traitor, except for the incidentally fact of his birth in American. (Well, yes, he is, legally, a goddam traitor. It's just that he can't feel like a traitor to a country he's never given a damn about. Even as "president" he doesn't pretend to be America's leader but, rather, the leader of the ignorant, racist base that cheers him on whenever it gathers to hear him speak. The rest of us are non-entities to the s.o.b. and he has neither use nor respect for us.
Mostly, he's always been out for himself and only himself. As soon as he failed so badly in business that he needed help desperately to keep the world from seeing what an untalented, perverse, incompetent failure he is, he sold us out to the highest bidder and became Putin's babe. And he now plans to deliver the country to him.
We're screwed unless Mueller intervenes. And with Russian involvement, you never know what might happen to him.
