Trump is set to separate more than 200,000 U.S.-born children from their parents
By Mark L. Schneider
July 6 at 12:08 PM Mark L. Schneider is a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, former director of the U.S. Peace Corps, and former head of Latin America and the Caribbean at USAID. If you think the last few weeks of separating 2,300 children from their migrant parents along the southern border were heart-wrenching, imagine if 273,000 American-born children are separated from parents whose temporary protected status (TPS) is terminated. That is what could happen if the Trump administration’s decision to revoke TPS for Haitians, Salvadorans and Hondurans is allowed to take effect. Despite President Trump’s executive order reversing his policy of separating migrant families, most of those 2,300 children have not been returned to their parents. That is truly unconscionable. More than 100 times that number of children — all U.S. citizens — will be placed in similar jeopardy if the Department of Homeland Security begins programs to deport more than 58,000 Haitians on July 22, 2019, more than 262,000 Salvadorans on Sept. 9, 2019, and 86,000 Hondurans on Jan. 5, 2020. Parents will be faced with the decision of whether to take their children — most of whom speak mainly English and know only life in this country — back to countries deemed by the State Department as not safe for travel, some with the highest homicide rates in the hemisphere. Otherwise, parents will have to leave their children alone in the United States or, if they’re lucky, with relatives, or foster parents who they may or may not know, or some with “adult sponsors” chosen by federal agencies. The only other choice available to those parents would be to hide in the shadows as undocumented aliens. And that is what the ambassadors to the United States from El Salvador and Honduras, during an event at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), predicted that most families would attempt. And DHS would undoubtedly begin a massive hunt for them. more https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/global-opinions/wp/2018/07/06/trump-is-set-to-separate-more-than-200000-u-s-born-children-from-their-parents/

3. Surely it can be blocked, because when GOVMT terminates TPS, that does NOT make them all criminals.
I would think it surely can be blocked, because when government terminates TPS, that does not make them all criminals instantly. The "criminal" or "suspect criminal" status is what has been used to separate children from parents ... ... during the Trump Child Abductions of 2017-18. |

7. Except that this regime
doesn't care what the law says.
They'll just round people up and send them out of the country without any sort of due process. And he recently said that he wasn't sure if children born here are actually citizens...so he'll sign some idiotic executive order stating that they aren't and deport everyone while it winds its way to the SCOTUS where Gorsuck and friends will rule that only white, Russian anchor babies are legitimate citizens. What scares me is that while this is meant as hyperbole...it could really go that way, pretty easily. |

11. Your number is way way way too low.
TPS applicants were higher than those listed at one point. Over time some have obtained green cards through family etc.
The number is very close to 200,000 US born kids or more. |

It's also about purging the country of young non-white people in order to prevent further growth of what many see as the Democratic base.

10. These TPS people
have been in the US working legally, opening businesses and paying taxes for 20 years or more as is the case with Honduras(2020). 18 years for El Salvador(2019) and other countries maybe a little bit less.
Every 18 months they go through an FBI fingerprint biometrics background check and pay $400-$500 for processing. So when their last TPS expires , they'll revert back to being undocumented. No more driver's licenses, no more work permits. So DHS and all agencies have their addresses etc. Easy pickings for ICE. Devastating for them and their families. |

45. This is how you kill a democracy; it's been the Repub uber lords (Kochs) agenda all along.
Their decades long propaganda machine has brainwashed enough of the "rabble" and they have now seized total control of all three branches of our govt. Trump, the perfect puppet to unite all the major Repug parts (from their fellow US oligarchs, the for profit "Christian"machine to Putin) and the kick their war on democracy into full throttle.

33. But this is what's so weird. America was never all white.
They want to go back to a time that never was.
American was originally populated by Native Americans. Northern Europeans colonized the east coast, but Spain colonized the west. African slaves and Chinese workers were bought in to build this country and work its fields. I guess what they really want is to go back to a time when people of color were seen but not heard. |

and everyone else to be deported except that many of us were born here. My family of Hawaiians go back centuries. And Hawaii was ours to begin with, you know they won't let that state go back to being what it was.

They make the federal laws.
They confirm the SCOTUS so we have judges that will provide a true check and balance against a president who goes off the ranch. Impeachment is also a tool congress can use to enforce human rights in this country. I am on a bitchfest... yes I said it... BITCHFEST. Every federal elected official is going to get an earful whether they want to hear it or not until this changes. Period. Edit to add.... dear Republicans......... family values my ass.
