Come 2020 if Trump is still in office the question to voters will have to be:

Are you better off today than you were 4 years ago? Because if you are not then can you really believe a word this asshole who grabs pussy, created a fake university, separates children from their Mothers, enriches his family using the Presidency and steals from children's cancer charities for his own benefit has been selling you?

Sooner or later the 10 or 15% of poor folks who did vote for the con-artist based on the idea that he would drain the swamp and put money back in their pockets are going to realize things aren't better and will probably be worse. The spectacle of the dog and pony show of acting tough with China and Europe and immigrants can only work for so long before people will start asking when the money waterfalls he promised will come. They may just need to be reminded over and over and over again that they are still poor. This at least would be a better reason to just stay home or give a progressive a chance.

By the way, I think ontop of what Mueller reveals, that charity fraud trial is going to be very damaging! The campaign ads write themselves. Fucking taking money from kids with cancer! That is SOOO Fucked up and for the racists who don't care about the immigrant kids, they know many of the kids with cancer are white and dying. Those ads will be devastating for anyone with a heart who chooses to be open to them.

...but the fact is that it's almost impossible to gain residency in Canada unless you’re a) young and b) have in-demand skills at a high level, or c) better yet, a standing job offer. For people my age, the only hope would to be as rich as Jeff Bezos and willing to devote a sizable chunk of that wealth to economic investment there. Otherwise, you’re about as welcome there as a Salvadoran refugee is here.

I didn't realize it until I posted on DU about 6 months ago that my 84 year old father wanted to move to New Zealand since he and my mom, both die hard Dems, were thoroughly sickened by the state of affairs here. I got a lot of feedback regarding the immigrant requirements in other countries. My dad would be out of luck in New Zealand as much as he would be if he tried to move just about anyplace else.

The poor who voted for him in 2016 will again. As long as trump keeps railing against the brown people.

As for the self-writing commercials, they won’t be written, produced or aired. The Dems never play hard ball, it’s not their nature.

I wish I was wrong.

...is that all those people who stayed home in 2016 because they didn’t like either candidate and, besides, it didn’t matter because Hillary was certain to win easily, turn out in droves this time.

However. as hard as it may be to believe, all 62 million votes in 2016 didn’t come from MAGA-hat wearers.

Obama had the economy read to bloom and Trump inherited it. All the economic confidence indicators are way up. The stock market receives tons of note around here when it drops, but nobody says a peep when it rebounds sharply for two consecutive days, like yesterday and today.

I never have much hope of ousting an incumbent if the party has been in power only one term. I prefer base variables like that over subjectively trying to pretend they don't apply here or there.

We need Trump's approval rating to be where it is now -- or lower -- throughout 2020. A late decline in 2020 is not enough because people tend to make up their mind about the incumbent by the summer beforehand.
