Scott Pruitt Reportedly 'Devastated' He Had to Resign Under Pressure from White House

Scandal-ridden Environmental Protection Agency head Scott Pruitt did not exactly resign voluntarily, according to a Bloomberg report. Instead, it was a call from White House chief of staff John Kelly that forced his hand and his resignation.

According to Bloomberg, “Pruitt didn’t want to leave his post and was described as being devastated that he had to resign, said the people, who asked not to be named discussing a personnel matter.”

Trump — who told reporters aboard Air Force One on Thursday that there was “no final straw” when it came to Pruitt — also reportedly made the decision after hearing of his latest scandal, which broke on the same day as Pruitt’s resignation. He then had Kelly deliver the blow.

The president also didn’t allow Pruitt to announce the resignation himself, instead tweeting out on Thursday afternoon that he “accepted the resignation of Scott Pruitt as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.”
