but my dad said this during the '16 election. He said something like "how far have we fallen when Dan Quayle basically was laughed out of politics for misspelling a word and now Donald Trump might actually become President?"

How low we have sunk. As much as I couldn't stand Dan Quayle, I would give anything to have him back instead of Trump.

The continuous stupidity of GOP candidates at every level of government has been consistent for a long time. But I'm sure his golf game was good.

Not only are they funny and liberal, but it also allows you to look back with a certain perspective and a little bit of reflection on the current state of affairs...some things stay the same and some get worse unfortunately.
