Joe Scarborough Accuses Trump of Forcing US-North Korea Summit for 'Cheap Headlines'

On Saturday, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough accused President Donald Trump of forcing the summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un for the headlines.

“Proving once again that only fools rush in, Trump forced a summit for cheap headlines,” Scarborough wrote.

He added: “In the process, he gave legitimacy to the most oppressive communist regime on the planet, further damaged the United States and made himself look like a fool.”

He also included a link to a Washington Post article that read, in part: “In a sharp signal that denuclearization negotiations with North Korea will be drawn out and difficult, Pyongyang on Saturday lambasted the U.S. stance as regrettable, gangster-like and cancerous, directly contradicting Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s rosy assessment that his two days of talks had been ‘productive.’”

With the summit over, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has been left with the difficult work of actually trying to make progress with North Korean dictator Kim, something that if the WaPo report is any indication of, did not go as well as planned.

Although the Friday and Saturday morning talks did not — based on North Korea’s assessment– go well, another meeting with the Department of Defense is still scheduled for July 20, according to ABC.

good in the eyes of his rabid fans. He will sell out the US for a video of him glad handing Putin. Republicans are enabling Trump, they know he is walking the razor's edge between incompetence and treason, and they turn a blind eye to his madness because they need his voters to keep themselves in power.

The media in this country are so scared of the rightwing that they can’t state the obvious.
It’s hard to really complain about this headline which is close to the truth, and Mediaite normally does a decent job.

But come on, it’s totally clear Trump is using the totally busted summit for cheap headlines. Just say it. Don’t hide behind “someone accuses”.
