That means the majority of his steel, which comes from the European Union, is now 25 percent more expensive. He said a long-term price increase wouldn't be a problem, but this one is instant.

"We've got stuff on the water, we've got stuff traveling. We're stuck with what we've got, so we've got steel coming from overseas that will be impacted on this cost," he said.

He's left with either raising prices, taking margin hits, which could mean cutting jobs or moving some operations to China, which he does not want to do.

"We've got to keep the labor down and keep the automation up, so we'll have to look for ways to eliminate the cost, or our customers could go to China," he said.
