Beshear is the current Democratic Attorney General in Kentucky and is the son of former governor Steve Beshear, who had two very successful terms in Kentucky (before we elected our clown Matt Bevin). Beshear's governorship was especially noted for implementing the ACA through its popular program Kynect.
In March, Bevin and the Republican legislature burned lots of political capital when they passed a law reducing retirement benefits for public employees and did so in the middle of the night without the proper legislative steps. Beshear filed a lawsuit and a circuit judge recently declared the bill unconstitutional. Beshear has become an icon for Kentucky teachers in recent months.
Beshear is only 40, and an administration as successful as his dad's would make him a player on a national stage, especially coming from a "red state." I happened to talk with him during one of the teacher rallies in Frankfort, and he is quite personable.
The governor's race is next year, 2019. Keep an eye on Beshear.
P.S. Amy McGrath is the candidate running against Andy Barr in the KY-06 district. She is a former fighter pilot and in the primary performed very well in the rural counties that surround usually-blue Lexington. She is another prospect that, should she win, will have a bright future. Young, veteran, female, hails from a red state, upstanding character, defeated the very popular mayor of Lexington in her primary, etc. Consider donating to her: https://amymcgrathforcongress.com/

(5,737 posts)Bevin won't get the GOP nomination next year. James Comer (KY 1st District Rep) hates him and will take him down in the primary. Andy will have a tough battle beating Comer.
Lexington-Fayette County will go for McGrath. Don't count on those surrounding counties to do the same. She beat Jim Gray on the primary because of those surrounding counties. I am hopeful that sanity will prevail in November and McGrath wins.
