(14,165 posts)Not necessarily specific insults, but the overall attention he is getting from around the world. His made up last name is being shouted and in some cases heralded around the world. He is not only the talk of the town, but talk of the planet. You just know that in his pea brain he is thinking, even bad publicity is still publicity. He has become larger than life by taking the Presidency. And will be until his dying days. He will make news on a regular basis long after he is not President. He loves the spotlight, and no matter for what awful reason he is in that spotlight, he will always have his fiercely loyal followers and trolls everywhere to whitewash and defend his every tweet.

(15,185 posts)I know the paid-for outlets like fux will still rant and rail about the liberals and the other fake news.
How refreshing it would be if the NYT, Reuters, WashPo, every non-brainwashed media to do a one or two (or twenty) day embargo of anything that came from his mouth or other orifices (twitter)?

(32,596 posts)Was that planned as part of the march in Brussels? It doesn't surprise me that the Belgians are protesting Trump, just that it's in English. Thanks for the great photos!

(5,101 posts)Brussels is an International city. English is widely used.
Besides, we wanted to make sure Trump will understand our messages...

(463 posts)I wonder if that's a reflection of youth activism (social media vs. being out in the streets).
I stumbled across an Abolish Borders protest in S.F. yesterday. Well, not so much a protest, as much as a group set up some tents and barricaded off a street - with actual barricades. The S.F. police just do not give a shit.
Again, mostly older people milling about and some homeless setting up camp.
It's interesting to me to see if different generations are shifting how they express themselves.
Note: If I were a smart Republican, I'd take pictures of the Abolish Borders protest and start cooking up tv ads. That stuff flies in San Francisco and just about nowhere else. It's a right-winger's wet dream when it comes to election strategy.

(463 posts)I was wondering where all the young people were. There are a few in the pictures, but if you look at the crowds, they seem to mainly consist of 40s-60s.
I'm curious to know if the street protest culture is starting to phase out a bit in the age of social media. Yeah, there are a few things that are exceptions, like the Women's March and some of the larger immigration protests. But in seeing the pictures and thinking on it, I realized even many of my activist friends (I'm LGBT with a very racially diverse social group), don't tend to bother with them. It seems only the most die-hard activists I know attend these things.
The one exception I'd make are campus protests. Those, of course, are almost all young people. But they don't really have to go anywhere or expend much effort to attend.
I feel like a lot of younger energy ends up on the internet these days. Your Facebook and your Twitters. But to me, it feels like it ends up concentrated in echo chambers and is more easily dissipated or ignored.
I wonder if the Iraq protests taught a lesson in some way. Millions in the streets, and it changed nothing. The Women's March was massive, and it didn't slow Republicans down one bit. I wonder if Millennials are perhaps reading lessons into that and trying other avenues.
I don't know the answers at all. I was just having idle thoughts.

(6,544 posts)I watch a lot of the protests on TV and find that there is a healthy mix of ages. My going to protest days are over as I have severe mobility issues. However, I am very active in calling my congress critters, donating money to candidates and causes, writing opinion letters to the local newspapers, and anything else I can still do. It has been a long haul with this administration and media fatigue is rampant. That just makes me all the more determined to do as much as I can. I am a member of the "older group" but that only means that I bring a lot of experience from the civil rights movement to the present day to the fight. We need as much encouragement as we can get, as I am sure you are aware. Please do not post things that zap the enthusiasm for those of us who are still in the fight. Thank you for engaging with me, and again for explaining your post to me. Resist, Persist, VOTE.

(463 posts)I'm not denigrating people who get out in the street at all.
Given what's happening with the Supreme Court, I think some physical disruption is going to be just about the only thing that will make politicians understand - and more importantly - fear.

They do not meet our standards !
Perhaps some republicans will finally understand how much they are wrong !
Protests are scheduled everywhere Trump will stop.

Hard to chose as all are great, but I really like these :
"You called us a Hellhole, we call you an asshole" (Brussels is my hometown)
"Pro America / Anti-Trump"
Some were in French but couldn't find good pics :
"Nous aimons les américains, nous n'aimons pas Trump" We love Americans, we don't love Trump"
"Ceci n'est pas un président" This is not a President. A reference to Magritte's paint, "Ceci n'est pas une pipe".
