Hypocrisy blushes when it looks Mitch In the eye. History will not be kind to him.

(15,278 posts)There's something for everyone to hate in his long record on the federal bench and in his previous career working for Starr.
Everyone's focused on Collins and Murkowski, but Heller's the one up for re-election in a blue state and could be a problematic vote for McConnell.
There's no reason for any "red state" Dem to vote to confirm him.

(63,836 posts)picking a Supreme Court judge??? there is something definitely wrong with this picture.
We will be screwed for a very long time if this happens. tRump wants to stack courts in his favour, to be above the law, no man (which he isn't) is above the law.

(3,635 posts)He would be an excellent VP choice as well, would fulfill the attack dog role perfectly.
Dean 'gets' how the base thinks, not just the economic side but the social justice side as well.

(4,352 posts)I did a little grassroots work for you when you were DNC Chairman. That's when Democrats started winning in congress again. You call 'em as you see 'em, you always have and I admire you for it. We need more leaders like you who will "roll up their sleeves" and not back down from the fight. Let's fight this with our hearts and souls.

(26,727 posts)As I understand it, the tradition is that once a judge accepts a nomination to the Supreme Court, he stops participating in DC Circuit rulings. One of the clues that court watchers used to identify Kavanaugh as the favorite was that the DC circuit released a ruling yesterday when they normally never release rulings on a Monday. Apparently, they wanted to get that one out before he had to step aside.
I think Garland had to have been a part of that. A classy move in an otherwise classless process.

(3,515 posts)Kavanaugh is confirmed because of Kavanaugh's views on the president's nobless oblige should he be indicted.
But he also figures that he puts Kavanaugh before Congress first, and if Kavanaugh is rejected, a subsequent second or third right-wing scoundrel he proposes will be viewed as a "compromise" candidate and easily confirmed.
He thinks he is smart.
If Merrit Garland could not be confirmed, neither should Trump's picks.
A compromise should really be a compromise and not just some bargaining ploy by Trump to get an extremist on the Supreme Court.
Let's remember. Trump did not receive the most popular votes. He won only because the outcome in the electoral college did not by any means reflect the outcome of the popular vote.
Hillary won the popular vote. And now Trump is acting as if he had been chosen as president by the people. He was not. He was chosen by the electoral college, a twenty-first century leftover from the 18th century. A historical curse on our country.

(11,885 posts)They need to investigate if Kennedy was blackmailed ( using his son) out of the Supreme Court. I also suspect from trump and putins patterns they have their goons trying to gather dirt on others on the court they can also force out of their position, and will use to replace them with also. I also think they're doing this to members of Congress to use against them for control. They corrupt others to then use it against them with it.
