Rick Santorum on Kavanaugh Nomination: Trump 'Bowed to the Elite in Washington'

by Ken Meyer | 10:48 pm, July 9th, 2018

Rick Santorum wasn’t impressed with President Donald Trump‘s decision to nominate Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, and he doesn’t think the president’s base will be excited with the announcement either.

The Republican former senator was on CNN tonight — where he held a rousing debate with Jennifer Granholm, as they offered their first thoughts on Trump’s pick to replace retiring justice Anthony Kennedy. When asked for his final take, Santorum seemed rather glum as he assessed that Kavanaugh is too much of Washington insider to fire up Trump’s base.

“Donald Trump said he was going to energize the base with this pick, I don’t think he did that,” Santorum said. “It just seems like Trump – in this case – just bowed to the elite in Washington. I think that’s going to rub a lot of people the wrong way.”

Santorum may or may not be a part of that, but hearing this kind of thing leads to people wondering whether Kavanaugh can really be that bad if someone odious enough doesn't like him.
