This is not your father's Republican Party. An Economist/YouGov survey conducted July 1-3 finds that only 40% of Republicans think we should stay in NATO while 56% of Republicans think Donald Trump's relationship with Vladimir Putin is a good thing for the United States.

1. NATO isn't just a goodwill gesture for Americans..

NATO is a realistic buffer to the Soviet Union for the Western Allies. That includes the USA. They are on the "front" we are in the rear of the battlefield. Regardless, NATO works to protect us too.

Divisions and 6.4 million active troops and 8.3 million Reserves, 69,000 tanks, divisions of bridge building units, and more than 11,000 aircraft.

I support NATO but let's not go overboard with fearing Russia, NATO needs backbone more than anything, NATO is deliberately making themselves weak and unprepared.

outgunned with most of the Warsaw pact aiming at it, even countries like Sweden are rearming and starting the draft, they fear that the European NATO countries have gone soft on paying the cost of maintaining their militaries and confronting Russia. Russia can only nibble at the little counties with bluff and guff and limited engagement, they cannot defeat NATO on paper.
