A poll commissioned by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee showed a hotly competitive race in New Yorks 19th District, a top target for Democrats hoping to win back the House.
GOP Rep. John Faso trailed Democratic attorney Antonio Delgado by 7 points in the poll. Forty-nine percent of those surveyed supported Delgado, while 42 percent backed Faso, with a margin of error of 4.2 points.
The 19th District in the Hudson Valley swung from supporting former President Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 to backing President Donald Trump in 2016. Trump carried the district by 7 points. Inside Elections with Nathan L. Gonzales rates the 19th District race Tilts Republican.

(25,839 posts)the 19 meant 19% for Delgado, and couldn't understand why this was anything other than bad news. So glad I was wrong.

(23,083 posts)Why would they rate this as leans repug when the Dem has a 7% positive margin? Doesn't make sense to me.

(34,857 posts)1) It's a Republican district.
2) This is a partisan poll and should be taken with some grain of salt.
3) This is one poll - and the only poll I can find since Delgado won the nomination. The last polls were from before the primary, and Ryan (who Delgado beat in the primary) beat Faso - but Delgado was tied.
4) This poll is from late June. Curious why they're releasing it now.
Anyway, it'll be a competitive race but it does make sense why they're putting it as lean Republican for now. If more polls show Delgado winning, though?

(23,083 posts)I didn't realize it's just the one poll showing those results. Hopefully others will follow with similar findings and it will go to lean Democratic.

(4,379 posts)I will be voting for democrats across the board this November. I think we can win this district. When I wear my anti Trump t-shirts I get a lot of compliments. The Trump voters have become silent.
