That is a lie. Fred Trump was born in the Bronx, New York. Further his father would not have been granted German citizenship because his grandfather was banished for draft dodging. Why does he lie about everything?
He also said that both his parents were EU citizens. His mother was Born in Scotland but there was no EU at that time.

(41,915 posts)Its that simple. He gets away with it. Hes so important he can, like a king, proclaim reality and the peasants have to agree, particularly when the governmental minions all agree that, as my sweet old grandmother would say, his shit dont stink.

(115,276 posts)whatever crap he spouts. This particular lie was probably intended to make it look like he has this lovely family connection to the EU countries so why are they being so mean to me? The fact that his grandfather, not his father, was born in Germany (Trump once claimed his grandfather was Swedish), and that the EU didn't exist when his mother was born or when she emigrated, is irrelevant, as is the fact that his lie can be easily disproved by the people who live in the reality-based world, not up Trump's ass.

(267,808 posts)Donald Trump, who launched a tirade of criticism against Germany at Wednesday's Nato summit, has not always been so hostile towards the country.
Only a few years ago he was touting it as the land of his forefathers.
I have great German heritage. Im very proud of it. Great place, he told a documentary about the village of Kallstadt, in western Germany, where his grandfather, Frederick Trump, was born and lived until he emigrated to the US as a teenager.
In 1999, Mr Trump served as Grand Marshal of the annual German-American parade in New York City. And in 2011 he recorded a video message for the event in which he said: Im a proud German-American.
But the story of his German heritage is complicated. Until the 1980s, Mr Trump maintained that his grandfather came from Sweden.
Thats the version of the story in his book, The Art of the Deal, and he told it so many times that at one point the city of Karlstadt in Sweden was considering founding a museum in his honour.

(16,046 posts)He knows that his base is as stupid as he is! They'll never question anything he says or does...his base will always jump to his defense, women will defend his attacks against other women, the few people of color that worship him will defend his attacks on other people of color, and the white men will rally to his cause, especially if it means they might get the chance to do what followers of tyrants have done throughout history...kill in the name of their orange faced Lord and Master!!!

(12,538 posts)I've only seen one reporter do it. He directly asked Trump how he could keep claiming to have had the biggest electoral victory when so many others had had larger ones. The reporter then proceeded to name off a half dozen presidents -- Bush, Obama, Reagan, etc. IQ45 was dancing all over the place trying to worm his way out of that one -- "Well, that is what I've been told..."
I'd pay Big Bucks to see that happen every time he gets in front of a group of reporters. "Why are you lying about asylum seekers breaking the law?" "Why do you keep lying about how tariffs benefit regular Americans, when they're just another sales tax?" "Why do you lie about Melania being here legally? Did she take the citizenship test? Where do we find her naturalization papers?" "Why do you lie about not being able to release your tax returns because they're being audited when your own IRS says an audit does not prevent you from doing so?" "Why do you lie about the size of your inauguration?" "Why do you lie about not wanting a Nobel for your meeting with Kim Yung Un?" "Why do you lie about hiring only the best people when so many in you administration have resigned in disgrace?"
"Why do you lie about Russia having nothing to do with the 2016 election?"
And on, and on...
