When I first signed up to lead this organization in the fight for fair maps and fair elections, I knew our fight would be an uphill battle -- change is never won easily. And I believe that hard-fought victories that move our country forward will always require ordinary people doing extraordinary work.
This is exactly what President Obama speaks about in his new video about the NDRCs mission -- citizens serving as the check and balance on government by making their votes count and voices heard. We have to reverse the disastrous effects of partisan and racial gerrymandering on our democracy. Thats why President Obama has made it one of his top priorities to restore power to the people where it belongs.

We got redistricted here in 2015 and during the June Democratic primary I voted for the lone candidate that was from a place I was familiar with - all the rest were from several hours away, places I'd never been or heard of. Out of 6, my candidate came in third. The winner, now the candidate, was from the farthest away. She has my support and my vote - the Republican incumbent is a Paul Ryan supporting nightmare - but I am disappointed.
