'Our pleas have fallen on deaf ears': Michigan farmers who supported Trump blast tariffs destroying their livelihoods
Tom Boggioni 13 JUL 2018 AT 15:37 ET

In an interview with farmers in Michigan who are seeing the agricultural tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump possibly destroy their livelihood, the Detroit News reports they can’t even get their congressional representatives to stand up for them.

According to David Williams, a fifth-generation soybean farmer in Elise, Michigan, the 25 percent tariff imposed by China in retaliation for the president’s tariffs is killing the agricultural sector.

“Nobody wins in a trade war,” said Williams, he 67-year-old president of the Michigan Soybean Association. “We’re not going to win. China’s not going to win. In the meantime, soybean farmers are just hurting.”

Williams pointed the finger directly at President Donald Trump, who he believes was put in the White House by rural mid-westerners like himself.

But they can take comfort that the rest of us are suffering too. I guess that was the real point.

3. Mr. Williams You Got What You Voted For

You had more than ample warning that a Trump Administration would be a disaster and more than enough evidence and more than enough tools to learn that those warnings were all too valid, yet you voted for Donnie and the Republicans anyway.

You expect us to sympathize with you? We knew better than to vote for that man or his party and you dragged us along for the ride to Hell, too.

Despite your stereotypes about us “Libs,” we expected better of you, yet you gave in to your worst impulses and voted Republican. I have no sympathy.

with some idiotic belief that trump would not include him and his kind who also voted for him. I feel bad for those of us who knew the truth of what would happen and are the ones who are going to suffer also. Well, Mr. Williams, welcome to the result of your actions, vote, and willingness to stay ignorant of the truth.

11. "Nobody wins in a trade war," Mr. Williams?

Perhaps you should check with your president, who said that trade wars are good and easy to win:

However, if you're disappointed with the man you helped elect president, perhaps you're ready to consider someone else? Too bad you have to wait a few more seasons for that chance. In the meantime, John Moolenar is currently your representative in Congress. What has he done to ease your burden from Trump's ill-considered policies? He's unopposed for the Republican nomination in the August 7 primary, so you're stuck with his do-nothing approach.

Maybe you should consider the Democratic side of the ticket?
