By Jacqueline Thomsen - 07/13/18 05:32 PM EDT
Conservative lawmakers in the House are preparing to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Politico reported Friday.
Sources told the publication that conservatives have been preparing to have Rosenstein impeached for weeks over allegations that hes held up their investigation into FBI agents who some lawmakers say are biased against President Trump.
House Freedom Caucus leaders Reps. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) are leading the effort, and the impeachment document could be filed as soon as Monday, according to Politico.
Ben Williamson, a spokesman for Meadows, declined to rule out if it would be filed next week, Politico reported.
The news comes the same day that Rosenstein announced charges against 12 Russian intelligence officials for allegedly hacking the Democratic National Committee.

(3,344 posts)This is why Rosenstein should not have given them all of those documents. They're going to try to impeach him anyway.
Could someone describe how impeachment works here? Is it the same process as a presidential impeachment?

(5,790 posts)Trump could still fire Rosenstein. It'd be like pleading guilty, but who will prosecute him.
On the other hand, it could complicate the confirmation of the Kennedy replacement.

Then the trial goes to the senate where conviction requires a 2/3 majority.

(15,805 posts)Two-thirds of the Senate must vote to convict before any official can be removed and the Republicans simply don't have the numbers to pull off such a stunt.
I suspect this is just another handy fundraiser distraction because Ryan won't allow a vote on a DOA nill like that.
