...their voting record would be atrocious if they were members of Congress. They probably don't give a damn about racism, sexism or income inequality. Or about people lacking health care coverage. Or about treating asylum-seekers humanely. So, they aren't people I'd want to hang out with.

But they oppose law-breaking (and probably civil disobedience), and they oppose being attacked by foreign adversaries. Therefore, they represent our best hope of getting rid of Trump.

11. In DoD there were lots of Rs, but

it was mostly because Rs usually voted to keep increasing defense spending or rarely checked whatever DoD requested. Their party registration reflected a financial self-interest. I wouldn't be surprised if that's a similar reason many law enforcement are registered Rs. But people in law enforcement generally have a more conservative mind-set, imho, too.
