General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIt looks like Trump destroyed himself today.
But this will take time to sink in. Trump went with Putin, and against the CIA, FBI our allies and the U.S.A. When the country fully understands what happened today, Trump will be gone, one way or another. There is no walking back, and Trump never apologizes for anything. No explanation will work, because there is none. This will be talked about for months. If Republicans defend Trump, it will help Democrats in November. November could see a "blue wave" beyond anything imagined.

You give his supporters more credit them they deserve, he did this to see how far he could push, something he's been doing since he got into office! And each time he's moved his agenda forward, congressional Republicans and his base have stood by him!
If he were to declare martial law tomorrow, do you really believe that his supporters would 'get it'? Do you believe that Republicans in Congress would 'get it'? Do you even believe that the 4 conservatives on the SCOTUS would 'get it'?
He could actually shoot someone at the Lincoln Memorial and his supporters still wouldn't 'get it'!!!

the baby prisons were a test, too, and the deplorables' devotion "passed", but this one's harder -- it takes place without the lure of racism and bigotry to aid it, except in the abstract. they have to really want a reward that's not immediate gratification of some base urge, and this will be the turning point.

The Saturday Night Massacre was a series of events on the evening of Saturday, October 20, 1973, during the Watergate scandal in the United States. U.S. President Richard Nixon ordered Attorney General Elliot Richardson to fire independent special prosecutor Archibald Cox; Richardson refused and resigned effective immediately. Nixon then ordered Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus to fire Cox; Ruckelshaus refused, and also resigned. Nixon then ordered the third-most-senior official at the Justice Department, Solicitor General Robert Bork, to fire Cox. Bork considered resigning, but did as Nixon asked. The political and public reaction to Nixon's actions were negative and highly damaging to the president.

(15,349 posts)But Trump true believers will always believe him over anything or anyone sane.
They are literally a cult and, as they have already shown, have no qualms about upending US democracy altogether.
The question is really whether those of us in the majority can keep this in our minds long enough to vote in a Blue Wave in November. Without that, I truly believe that we are lost.
GOPers in Congress MAY bemoan Trump's words and actions. But they will NEVER do anything to remove him from office and will continue to do his bidding. It is, after all, their own agenda.

(342 posts)This "private" meeting with Putin was about making a deal for Russia's help with the mid-terms. Trump already gave it away when he predicted the other day that we would see big red wins in the mid-terms? How does he know this when all of the trends are pointing to democrats winning? The deal was done and no one is doing anything to stop this. Republicans are poised to keep power and control.

(22,671 posts)He thinks he is the CEO of the US, and the intelligence agencies are just departments in HIS company that have been giving him bad advice. He thinks Putin is head a big company he'd like to merge with, but first he needs to break contracts he has with a bunch of subsidiaries of a company called Europe. He thinks Congress is his Board of Directors who rubber stamps his decisions because he holds a majority share in the company.
