The TrumpPutin press conference in Helsinki on Monday was the most appalling appearance by an American president on a foreign stage in recent memory, perhaps in all of history. In one sense, the summit between the leaders wasnt as bad as many expected, in that President Trump didnt seem to concede much on policy (unless he did so secretly in the two leaders one-on-one session). But in another sense, it was much worse than anyone might have imagined, in that Trump proved himself to be completely in Russian President Vladimir Putins pocket.
Really, any member of Trumps national security team who doesnt resign immediatelyor perhaps better, offer to testify about any incriminating information they might possessis from this point on doing a disservice to the United States.
The moment that should have been a turning point for all Americans was when Trump was asked whom he believes on the question of whether Russia interfered with the 2016 election: Putin, who denies all involvement, or the U.S. intelligence community, which unanimously and firmly concludes otherwise.
Trumps reply was, even by his standards, astonishing. First, he tried to skirt the issue, asking what happened to the Democratic National Committees computer servers, what happened to Hillary Clintons 33,000 emails, why isnt the FBI looking into those mysteries. Then he said this: President Putin said its not Russia. I dont see any reason why it should be I will tell you, President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial.
So there you have it. Asked to choose between the verbal assurances of the Russian president (a former KGB officer who has lied about all offensive cyberoperations against the West) and the detailed reports of U.S. intelligence agencies (as well as the repeated testimony of his own entire national security team), Trump chose the Russian spy.

(23,930 posts)1. "perhaps"? what is this "perhaps" about?
this makes W's shoe toss seem like tiny potatoes by comparison. he insulted our NATO allies, was downright rude to the goddam Queen of England, and basically tongued Putin's anus on live TV. what foreign excursion by a president has ever come even remotely close to this manner of shitshow?

he was trained by the KBG. Trump, on the other hand was born that way.
