I marched with my father in Civil Rights marches.
I went to Ohio State and had friends of many different ethnic origins.
I moved around alot in my life, Ohio, Southern California, Tx, back to SoCal, Az, in the Sierras, SF Bay area, KY, KC, and finally back to No Ky for good (I assume).

Granted that the places were almost always urban, but I have found that most folks I have met in a work and social environment are pretty accepting of whoever you are and overt racists aren't really welcome. Here in No KY (we're just over the Ohio River from Cincinnati) where we have lived for the last 10 years we are seeing more and more non-white folks show up and nobody really cares. The shoppers in the grocery check out line are just as friendly and chatty regardless if the checker is black, white, asian, or whatever. I have never seen anyone give a dirty look to a woman in a hajib with her children shopping, or giving an African doctor, aide, nurse, or phlebotomist a hard time. Maybe we are making progress but it just doesn't make the news.

A couple of years ago we had a really severe winter. A woman lost control of her car on an icy patch, went over an embankment and ended nearly submerged in a creek. Three teen-agers saw it happen. They sent one of them to call 911 and the other two waded into the nearly frozen water, got to the driver who was trapped in the car, and held her head above water until rescue crews arrived and were able to cut her free. Both the driver and the two boys suffered from hypothermia. Naturally it was a nice human interest story for the 6:00 news. The boys were somewhat embarrassed by all the attention. They just said, 'no big deal, it is just what you do'. And it was no big deal to anyone that the boys were black and the driver was white.

Trump is stoking the fires of racism. And that, all by itself, is enough to impeach him, let along everything else.
