Those lyrics are confused, since the writers were not historians or geographers or particularly educated.

Odessa is a city on the Black Sea, thousands of miles from the Baltic and North Atlantic.

Further nonsense is that those lyrics are a modern transcription because they contain a particularly modern error: Using "then" when "than" is intended. It sticks out like a sore thumb.
