He (they) use a bunch of tactics designed to brainwash, normalize the abnormal and overwhelm with a constant blizzard of craziness. One thing after another wears you down eventually. You just get tired of resisting. (Well, WE do. The base cheers his nastiness.) So it is a whole playbook of tactics to inculcate the message, wear down your resistance and make it all seem normal.

One of tRump’s Central messages is to distrust the media. He has been at this for quite a while now so we have our work cut out for us if changing people's Perceptions is the goal. The base has been carefully groomed and even taught to distrust their instincts that something is wrong. People who understand how brainwashing works can go a long way to help us know how to retrain thinking so they will listen as alarm bells are going off all over the place.
