He was admonished by the Senate ethics committee for his involvement with a campaign donor but the investigation was later dropped and he was issued a letter of clearance.

So I was wondering if that was why he was on the panel - to talk about governmental ethics. Or is he just a regular on the show?

violations that perhaps the name of one of them would cause that to leap to mind.

Thank you for the striking comparison of the rarity of serious ethics charges among Democrats with what's happened on the right.

The right always tended to be much more prone to corruption because they don't believe in their role in a liberal democracy. But 7 years after Citizens United, and then McCutcheon, helped stuff congress with tools of the very wealthy, every single Republican congressman and Senator is intensely corrupt in apparently every possible way, to the point of now threatening to destroy our democracy.

Even though he was later cleared of the more serious charges, Torricelli did violate ethics for campaign donations, and that lead to the loss of his senate seat when he ran for reelection. Unfortunately, only in the Democratic Party.

But let's remember the rest of his record. At his very worst, Torricelli served America well, while his colleagues on the right worked to betray their constituents. Right, Oberliner?

Torricelli helped rewrite federal bankruptcy rules, assuring federal financing for hospitals. A leading voice for tax cuts, he was the author of the provisions reducing taxes for middle income families and making college tuition tax deductible. He obtained over $1 billion in federal funding for the construction of affordable housing in New Jersey. Additionally, Torricelli established the federal urban park restoration program and secured funding for law enforcement and education, leading to the addition of thousands more police officers and reductions in class sizes.
