Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue belittled American farmers on Wednesday.
Its a little bit like weight loss, Perdue said of the tariffs that are damaging the bottom line for lots of red states, U.S. farmers. Its going to be good to get there but it is a little painful in the meantime.
Perdue referred to Trumps reckless tariffs as trade disruptions were experiencing, as if they werent specifically manufactured and imposed by the Trump administration. His remarks echoed Trumps dismissive rhetoric about how trade wars are easy to win.
Wait a minute, Trade disruptions were experiencing. That sounds very passive, stressed Axios editor Mike Allen, as he interviewed Perdue. In fact, its your president, its your administration, thats disrupting trade.

(43,049 posts)China and others are rapidly replacing their suppliers and may have no reason to get back to us. And I thought everyone knew Big Ag was less efficient than local farmers because they can live on even smaller margins.
So, everyone loses.

(102,119 posts)Perdue has largely escaped scrutiny simply because he's kept his head down and actually HAD some administrative experience. But I expect that the blowback willl be fierce.
