Standing for the anthem: a new solution

In need of a distraction Dufus is again bloviating about forcing NFL players to stand for the national anthem, or risk losing their jobs.

Of course we could avoid a lot of headaches if it was just decided to no longer play the national anthem at NFL games, or any other sporting events for that matter.

Of course there is the opposite option: play the national anthem at each and every entertainment venue. And everyone will need to stand up and sing.

Movie theaters. Plays on Broadway and everywhere else. Music shows and concerts at arenas and small clubs. Comedy shows. Chamber music recitals. Poetry slams.

Hell, why stop there? Strip clubs.

I mean, why single out the NFL? if professional athletes need to stand up and prove what great Americans they are, every other entertainer should also.

Especially not that one.

Patriotic displays in this country have morphed into a combination spectator sport/thrill-kill cult.

Why make it worse?

period. I watch football. Im patriotic. But, if someone said we have to turn off football to save our beliefs...I could go without for a few years. It's not like food and water and air. We'd survive. When the owners revenues go down, they will find the stones to push back. They did when the other football league went belly up, and dt wanted in. MONEY TALKS TO THESE PEOPLE, AND I FEAR THATS THE ONLY WAY to get them to listen. (like CAPS...heh heh.)

and sing and put your hand over your heart when we go see Broadway shows at our favorite venue in Missouri, border close with Kansas so you can imagine. It makes me sick to have to do this. It is entertainment we come for but we have to show our love of country first, silly. We need to stop with the military crap at the movie theaters on TV or over sporting events. It is just all so over the top now that it all feels silly.

There is a place for this I suppose. I don't think any of us would forget where we are and who our allegiance is to if we stopped all of this. Being stirred up by patriotic furor is not healthy for our daily lives. It is possible to love your country without it being an obligation to stand before every event and show your allegiance.

IMO love, faith, support of all things only really means something if you show it on your own. Forceful love is nothing but that, forced love and fake.

Either side with the phony patriotism of Trump or stand up for the 1st amendment and 72% of their workforce.

dance recital in June. We had found our seats, getting ticket out of purse to go to the restroom before recital started, man walked across the aisle to ask me nicely "Ma'am, can't you stand for the Pledge?" I just said "What?" and he started explaining how he is a Veteran..... I said sincerely but firmly "And I applaud you, sir." then ignored him until he walked away.
