(63,221 posts)an ad. "York" and "Windsor" sound like they could be places in New England. Anyway, this is such a tragic world when a caring, decent human being gets gunned down in cold blood simply for sticking up for the rights of another human being. What kind of country are we turning into?
Sometimes, I feel like there is no way out of this but full on Civil War and secession.

(6,930 posts)If it happened in the south, we would have south haters all over it. One poster promised to burn down Atlanta again....tough guy. Never mind that Atlanta is largely African American.
PA, OH, IL, CA, OR, NY....racists are everywhere folks.

(31,261 posts)We won't win this argument by pointing whatabout fingers. There are some solid, solid blue areas in my purple Florida. As southerners, we need to work on expanding the blue in our region and ignore the distractions.

(66,278 posts)where I was born and raised, by the way, is still the only region in the US that institutionalized their racism and bigotry. An institution embodied in the flag that racists around the country, including and especially in Pennsylvania, fly proudly.

(9,527 posts)He was from California. Ronald Reagan born in Illinois, lived in California, literally took his campaign to Philadelphia Mississippi, institutionalizing racial animus in the modern Republican party.
On the other hand a good ole southern guy got the Civil and Voting Rights Acts passed.
Racism is more than the overtness of the confederate flag, or the hoods of the kkk. It's in structural disadvantages around education which occur in the north too. It's in unjust prison sentences for crack cocaine and other crimes that disproportionately put minority men in jail. It's why the guy in San Francisco had the cops called on him, or the student at Yale. The idiots still waving the confederate flag, those guys are easy to spot because they wear their bigotry on their sleeve. It's relatively easy to avoid them. It's the people who are smart enough to not use racial slurs, or hold up racist flags that you don't see coming.

(66,278 posts)It usually doesn't take much to get them to do it. Even the ones who are "smart enough" not to use racial slurs often express a perverse glee in demonstrating that they are not bound by 'political correctness'.
