Are you watching the British Open?
The Tiger is roaring. Joint leader -7. First time in the lead since 2011.

(1,384 posts)at first the so called commentators suggested he would have to fire one out sideways... maybe we can get Miller to spend another hour telling us his life story.

(268,922 posts)The good news is that Tiger isn't hearing their BS

(1,384 posts)and some other so called commentators hate woods, he is responsible for a good chunk of their salary. They have their favorite US pretty boys to pant over, haven't seen a whiff of Sweden's Alex Noren or Tony Finau, both at 4 under.

(36,416 posts)Arthur Conan Doyle was a lousy speiller.

(53,061 posts)Doyle was an excellent English speller but was atrocious in German.
It was Watson who was the errant speller and he first wrote his notes out about Molinari when he was in his cups at Blackheath relating his past glory of playing rugby for Blackheath. At the same time he was relating the classic tale of their overtime win against Ipswich. Given his emotional state, the amount of alcohol and the lipstick of the barmaid it was all that Doyle could do to get that the first letter was a capital "M".
There was also the question of how well Watson could hear unusual names or foreign words because his hearing had suffered from the result of the bullet he took at the Battle of Maiwand.
Whether his spelling suffered more as a result of his imbibing at the club recounting his lost youth or from the injury has been a constant debate among the faithful all of these long years.
In any case Doyle, being an Edwardian Gentleman of the first order, never corrected the misspelling of the name after it first appeared in print because he felt that the stories of Watson going to Germany for advanced studies and then spending all his time ice skating was enough of an embarrassment and so the name of Holmes's chief nemesis has been incorrect all these years.
Bravo to you for correcting it.
