I rarely hear about it these days. I know that sufferers of opioid addiction still exist. Why is it being swept under the rug?

(23,083 posts)that I've heard. It was just another head fake to the base while ensuring big pharma that nothing at all, not even the tiniest bit of extra oversight or rule changes would happen. Big $$ will always always always be enhanced while drumpf is in charge, except when he's destroying them via tariffs because Putin told him to.

One might think, given the horrors of the opioid ADDICTION crisis, this flip side crisis would seem the lesser but when facing surgery, most would want the anesthesiologist to have access to the injectable drugs necessary, most effective, and safe for the patient. Whether it is morphine, dilaudid, fentanyl or others, it seems there are "rotating" shortages across the board.
While NPR did a piece on the latter this week, it is the only place I've seen mentioning it.
Like everything else, Trump sucks the air out of EVERYTHING, including news coverage and certainly the collective attention span.
As to the addiction crisis, given Trump's professed admiration for Duterte (and his murderous response to drug problems in the PHilipines), did you really think Trump was serious about PREVENTION and TREATMENT programs, rather than sadistic punitive policies? Only so far as he needed to placate his base.
