Sen. Richard Blumenthal Just Called On Mueller To Subpoena Trump

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) just called on Robert Mueller to subpoena Trump, and if he refuses to comply, take him to court.

Video @ link:

All In’s Chris Hayes asked Blumenthal if he agreed with Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) that it is time for Mueller to subpoena Trump.

He answered, “I agree. It is at the point where a subpoena from the special counsel will be entirely appropriate. This offer of a limited interview would be laughed out of his office if Rudy Giuliani were still U.S. Attorney. As a prosecutor, I would have laughed out of my office. And I think the special counsel in fairness to the country ought to talk about a subpoena and give the Giuliani and Trump camp a definite time limit on complying and then go to court if necessary and that action may go to the United States Supreme Court where as you know, the nominee in question believes very strongly that maybe the Nixon tape case ought to be considered, and the president should be above the law.”

The Mueller investigation is going to result in a showdown over impeachment. While it is important that Mueller get to interview Trump, especially about obstruction of justice, the scandal has been on a path to impeachment from the beginning. It would be wise for Trump to talk to Mueller so that he can get his side of the story on the record because the Mueller report is likely to result in articles of impeachment if Democrats control the House.

Since everyone around Trump holds the belief that he will lie to Mueller, Trump’s lawyers might be trying to keep perjury from being added to future articles of impeachment. It is time for Mueller to subpoena Trump. The president is dodging Mueller and trying to stonewall him because he is afraid of the Special Counsel’s investigation.

The consensus has grown to a roar. It is time for Mueller to subpoena Trump and force him to testify about his role in the Russia scandal.

I expect migraines caused by allergy of unknown etiology. All that sniffling with junk food residing in his sinuses.

You're welcome.

The prospect of getting that asshole in a setting where he's under oath and lying is a criminal act has to be so enticing. There's no way Trump can last 10 minutes without lying all over himself and everyone knows it.

but the interview would confirm Trump's "state of mind" regarding the obstruction of justice charges.
Mueller can ask Trump why he drafted a lie for what went on in the Trump Tower meeting, for example. If Trump gives a flimsy reason, Mueller can tear him to shreds under oath.

Trump never ever intended to sit down with Mueller, he fears Mueller. Mueller went where Trump got a doctor to write a letter about fake bone spurs to keep him from going there.

but I keep hoping that it just drops like a ton of bricks. (There's an indictment.....say, tomorrow).

I know that's not likely - but if there was a smoking gun somewhere in all of Mueller's evidence......

I just want it to be over. Quickly. This slow walk to wherever we are headed is so hard to sit through.

That he believes the precedent is so clear on this issue that Mueller would win a legal battle even if Kavanaugh was there.

And I suspect the evidence is piling up against Donnies part in the Russian coup d'état maybe they are not going to waste the time it would take to make Donnie claim the 5th because I don't think he would be able to last 2 minutes before he started with his bs stories. Yes I believe Trump is already a target.

Standard investigation techniques always calls for interviewing the target. But you do it at the end, after you talked to everyone else.

Actually sometimes the target can explain away some questions and they have a right to give their side of the story. But of course Trump is not your normal type of target. I've done a few investigationsnin my time, and though you may not want to, the target has to be interviewed.

I saw Joyce Vance and another prosecutor (don't remember the name) say that they interview witnesses and subjects of investigations but not targets.

IIRC they were on Lawrence O'Donnell's show. The topic of that segment was Roger Stone and why he had not been interviewed by Mueller.

Because they interviewed Clinton. Without that, they never would have had enough for attempted Impeachment because he lied to the FBI.

Hmmm, but it was different back then. And of course it involved a Democrat and you know how we are always held to a stricter standard. Republicons commit treason and it is A OK. Dems have sex with consenting adults and it's impeachment time.

This is not just money: This is civil and criminal and political. His inability to distinguish between himself and the role he's adopted kept him from understanding that this is not like the constant lawsuits he's survived in the past: This isn't a union or a contractor or a bank who wants to get paid: He's breaking all kinds of laws that can put him in prison, and the entire country has an interest in these actions: His inability to accept that reality allowed him to get this far into all of these problems, and he's not going to be able to resolve them: We, the american people, will have to resolve this.
