The President had so much sexual baggage he had to create a corporation to hide it all and we're splittin' hairs over whether they paid check or cash?
It's time to vote this corrupt GOP congress out of power and introduce this immoral president to the rule of law.

(7,811 posts)his base.
They wish they could be as horrible a person as he is and get away with it. Sadly, there are enough of these people around to make a difference in elections.

(7,811 posts)care about Russian interference or his conspiracy with them...nor will they care about lying, cheating, revisionist history, more payoffs to women, denigrating allies, hurting immigrants, hurting the poor, going backward on environmental protection, shutting down legitimate investigations, etc.. These are all examples of winning and being a strong, if assholish, person. In their minds.
They want to identify with someone who wins or who keeps escaping...so, What will lose him support is if he isn't really as big of a 'winner' as he seems. If he isn't as rich. If he can't get it up anymore. If he is exposed as an idiot. If he is forced to apologize. If he starts to lose lawsuits and investigations, if Putin and Kim take him to the woodshed in negotiations, if he is actually a bad negotiator, etc.. All of which are probably true.
The excerpted article takes the position that he's a conglomeration of the worst human and presidential traits...and so far it hasn't made a difference with his base. Shame doesn't work. That's a huge clue for dems campaigning in 2018 and 2020 elections and we need to at least add that campaign approach to the mix. With respect to his base, pointing out how he is is actually a weak, small, limited, scared person will be much more effective than JUST focusing on making policy points, analyzing the effects of his actions, and talking about what a horrible person he is. Easy case to make...let's not leave arrows in the quiver.

(64,971 posts)However, the 2 or 3% of voters who would have been disgusted by this behavior might have stayed home or voted for someone else if this information were known. The fish story they bought, hook, line and sinker, might have been less appealing if they knew what a slimeball the guy they were considering voting for, actually was.
