1. The EU will cave, they need the trade, and 45 will "win".

It's all about the money.

2. Nope

The EU has been actively discussing how it can ignore the US for the duration of Trump's Presidency. They aren't going to fold, and wouldn't be able to even if they wanted too... the EU trade policies are negotiated between all parties and it takes ages...

On top of all of that, Trump is toxic in Europe... Caving would NOT be popular.

It's definitely not all about the money with the EU.

4. Me too

I live in the EU right now and so have seen this play out from this side. I think the chances of the EU folding are essentially zero.

They've learned from Canada, and from their own interactions with him... He's irrational. And of course you have to stand up to bullies.

Breaking: President Trump and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Wednesday announced a limited deal to avoid a further escalation of trade tensions. In an unexpected press conference, the two leaders said the European Union would buy more soybeans and liquefied natural gas from the United States as the U.S. and E.U. work to eliminate tariffs on industrial goods. Existing tariff plans would be put on hold, they said, while the steel and aluminum tariffs that Trump imposed earlier this year would be reexamined. This story will be updated.

6. That's

A win.

The EU can afford this stuff, hasn't actually done anything but help its own people avoid stupid tariffs, and has created a half US half EU team to solve trade issues.

This is what European diplomacy does... The EU came and got rid of tariffs, and got a seat at the table to make things less about Trump and his personal mental illness.

8. It depends

We produce hardly any soy beans, and same for natural gas. So we depend on imports for these.

If we get lower tariffs to export things into the US that we actually DO produce, in exchange for buying soy and natural gas from the US instead of other countries, that might actually be a win.

In any case, getting Trump out of his "25% tariffs on cars from the EU!" mood and avoid the consequences we'd have to impose on the US in retaliation, that's nice.
