Man admits growing weed but Georgia jurors refuse to convict him

Fuck you Beauregard !!

Decent people don't lock people up in cages for no damn reason !

Prosecutors in Georgia may have thought they had a slam-dunk case when the defendant confessed to police and in court, but jurors refused to convict on a felony charge for a man growing marijuana for his own personal, medicinal use.

Javonnie McCoy was “caught red-handed” with nearly a pound of marijuana, Atlanta Journal-Constitution columnist Bill Torpy reported Friday.

“He admitted it to police, and later he looked jurors in the eye and said, yep, it was mine. I used it as medicine,” Torpy explained. “The jurors let him go. He was minding his own business and wasn’t hurting anybody, they reasoned. He just doesn’t belong in prison.”

each time I end up in the list of juror numbers dismissed from having to show up. Is it because I'm a registered Democrat? Huh, huh!? I have no idea why but I never even make it to the jury selection process. Maybe stating this out loud will break the jinx I seem to have.

I'm over 65, been a registered voter, a tax payer my entire adult life, and up until 2016 an non-affiliated voter. I've only ever been called once for jury duty, and I was dismissed, in all the locales I've lived in.

I would have liked to do it, but I couldn’t swing 3 days per week for 3 months. Had I done so I guarantee I would have voted to no-bill every single drug case.

Still I think the answer needs to be a legislative one. The drug war isn’t going away till the money for the drug war goes away.

You and your doctor can register you for MM use. You get a card to keep to prevent being charged with criminal possession in Georgia.

But no one in GA is allowed to legally produce a crop or harvest it or distill THC oil. So, you have to look out of state. From what I can tell, out of state suppliers won't sell across state lines due to federal law. And out of state suppliers may only supply to registrants in their states, where you have to be a resident to be registered.

I'm trying to find a source to sell to me, but I've had no luck.

I lived in Georgia years ago. It was a crazy place about anything "immoral" - take drinking. The liquor stores were closed on Sundays and no beer sales in supermarkets. But the bars were open. You could not buy a 6 pack and drink it in your backyard on Sunday, but going to a bar was fine! No porno bookstores either. But full naked strip joints with booze? A-OK! The liquor laws even changed county to county. You could cross a line and no sales after midnight. Go up the road, cross into another county and it was 24 hours a day sales. Crazy. They even had "to go" cups in bars. You could walk out with a drink in a plastic cup, right to your car. When I was there no gambling either. No horse racing, dog racing, nothing. They got the lottery after I left. Oh, and all that backwoods stuff? It's true outside of Atlanta. And even inside Atlanta in some places.

Did a field service job south of Phenix City, AL years ago and they told me that town thrived off gambling and prostitution from people from Columbus, GA across the border. It was a mean-ass place to stay in, too.

Same deal along the south-western border of Tennessee where they jump the line to party in Mississippi.

People will do their sinnin' no matter what the do-gooders say or do....... ...........

And the fact they had a honest D.A. but the mob murdered him.
A grand jury indicted the Alabama attorney general, a county solicitor and a chief deputy sheriff in the Patterson murder. Prosecutors said he was killed to keep him from testifying before a grand jury about the voter fraud.

But that was 50 years ago, now tis claimed the city is cleaned up.

Couple of books about the town back then, and a reporter got the Pulitzer for writing the truth about the place.

All of what you say is true, except that we can now buy alcohol on Sundays after 12:30 pm, & we got a lottery in 1993, partly because it passed by a referendum & partly because GA pols were tired of people spending their money on out-of-state lotteries.

Eventually MJ will be legal everywhere, for the same reason: Local governments will get tired of people spending their money on it in other states. There's no stopping it.

.... they would hear us say in so many ways that we don't agree with your policies and yes "your" laws.

Anymore then the anti-abortion crazies refuse to accept the settled laws protecting a woman's right to choose.

Or the religious rights demands that this country was founded base on Old Testament Bible tenants.

Or the international laws/treaties giving the RIGHT to immigrants to seek asylum.

Or the laws that prohibit taking kids from the parents WITHOUT just cause and judicial review.

Or the latest BS that the president can do no wrong. And is not subject to the same laws you and I are.

LISTEN UP YOU ARROGANT FOOLS the majority of the country is not with you is so many ways.

Medicinal marijuana is one.
